About Me

About Me
I was born in 1988 in, a small country town of Gunnedah, the Koala Capital of the World,
Australia. My name is Michael Doring.

I stayed in Gunnedah for 14 years, the first 12 were like any normal Childs, and the next two were
similar to the 1983 movie ‘The Outsiders’. I dealt drugs, did drugs – committed other crimes, and
ran-with the wrong crowd. In that time, I was held hostage at knifepoint, beaten a dozen times, and
many other dark things happened - my Aunty passed away, my Dad had a massive heart-attack, and
my Mum got cancer.

Leap forward to me at 15, I got away from the wrong crowd, and started getting 100% on most of
my exams, I guess going to school helped. I eventually had a nervous breakdown, and was
committed at the young age of 15 into a Mental Health Institution, for a month, and on medication
for a year.

In 2004, I then travelled to Sydney, and lived with my older brother Geoff. I excelled at school for the
next three years. The majority of classes were Computer-based, and that set the foundation for my
future online success.

In 2005, I meet my partner, currently of 7 years now, Joyce. I planned to join the SAS, or Commando
Unit 4RAR, in the Australian Army, but instead I ended up working for Michelle Patisserie, in the
factory, making Pies.

In Jan 2008, the company, Datacom, employed me. I worked on several contracts. I was a Technical
Support Specialist for BigPond (Call Centre), one of the biggest Internet Service Providers in
Australia. At Datacom, I also had a stint as a Team Leader for the ‘Department of the Environment,
Water, Heritage and the Arts’ Government information line.

Whilst at Datacom, I created several applications that were used by over 300 people, such as my Call
Notes application, and a CRM. In addition, I came up with over two dozen innovative initiatives, and
won three Innovation Awards. My actions in my Technical Support Specialist position led to Datacom
creating a new job role, Innovation Specialist, and they transferred me into that position.

I left Datacom around August 2010, and went to work for another computer company called Gizmo,
and that ended in 2011 in the middle of February due to downsizing. I was made redundant, and
thus, in 2011 February I became a fulltime Internet Marketer.

How did I get involved in Internet Marketing?

My life as an Internet Entrepreneur started in Balmain, Sydney on New Year’s Eve 2009. I spent the
night reigning in the New Year with, my two best mates, Marcel and Rob. Marcel, who was already
participating in Internet Marketing - gave me the idea to create a website for my Sports Betting
Application. Because earlier, in 2009, I came up with an idea to create an Uber Sports Betting
Application, I like sports, and gambling, so it made sense. I spent months researching - I had a 200
page-planning document by the end, and 20 Gigabytes of companion data.


About Me

Therefore, when New Years Day arrived, January 1st 2010, I purchased my first website related to
Internet Marketing, it failed – but it was my first taste, and set in motion my passion for making
money online.

I received my first payment related to Internet Marketing on 19/07/2010, it took 7 months, but I
made $128.15 that month. However, real success struck around January 2011, I started having lots
of $100, and even $300 days. I now work from home as fulltime Internet Entrepreneur.

I now have my own, SEO business, Website Design business, numerous affiliate websites, and have
even started creating software, and products.

In short, I have had a life full of ups and downs, but right now – I am rich, working from home, and
loving what I do.

What is the significance of backlinks?

Google’s original name for its search engine was BackRub, ‘because the system checked backlinks to
estimate the importance of a site’ 1

The search results displayed in Google are ‘based on a… *ranking system called+… PageRank’

The Google Search algorithm (PageRank) has been reported to have ‘over 200 different indicators’ 1
used to position websites in its index. The biggest factor contributing to a websites position in
Google’s index is purported to be the backlinks factor, which derives from the ‘analyses of human-
generated links’.1

A websites PageRank is apparently the ‘recursive score based on the weighted sum of the PageRank
of the pages linking to them’1, it is based on the notion of popularity and relativity.

The popularity factor is determined by how many links you get and from whom. Relativity however
is about how people link to your site. For example: if a lot of people link to your site with the link
text (anchor text) ‘best search engine’ then Google considers your webpage highly relevant to a user
searching for ‘best search engine’, and is likely to place you towards the top of the SERPs (Search
Engine Results Pages). Obviously, other known and unknown, factors such as webpage content are
in the mix (the algorithm), to produce the most relevant results, and weed out spammers.

So utilize backlinks, to make your website more visible in search engines, so you get more traffic.
Through this increased visibility comes the chance of enormous financial gain, and with a bit of luck
it leads to a millionaire lifestyle.

Step 1: Enter a search term into Google e.g. pc game discount

Step 2: Open one of the SERPs (search engine results pages)

Step 3: Copy the website URL of the SERP

Step 4: Enter the query link:http://www.websiteurl.com into Google e.g.

Step 5: Google should return a small list of webpages that have links pointing to the queried site.

Lastly, Step 6: Navigate to each website listed to determine its viability for obtaining a backlink.

Yahoo Site Explorer lets you explore web pages indexed by Yahoo! search, in many diverse ways. For
the purposes of this eBook, we only care about its ability to help find backlinks.

Note: Site Explorer data may not always be accurate, as Yahoo talks of phasing it out, due to its
alliance with Bing (Microsoft). See this article for more info

hunting, you should be able to find thousands of sites to place backlinks on using this method.

What is a forum?

If you have to ask, you are in trouble, but Wikipedia is great for those troublesome huh moments, so

What are forum profiles?

When you register on a forum, you get your own forum profile (membership page). This forum
profile is almost like your own mini-blog, it is a web page about you. This forum profile tends to be
accessible by the wider forum and internet community.

Why do Internet Marketers care about forum profiles? It is another place to put a backlink.

Some interesting comments about spam profiles from Google Webmaster Central Blog, spammers
‘...will create accounts and fill their profiles with gibberish... they'll add a sneaky link... Welcome to
the world of spam profiles...Some fake profiles are obvious...but we've noticed an increase in savvier
spammers that try to use real names and realistic data to sneak in their bad links... This isn't an easy
problem to solve...Google is constantly under attack by spammers trying to create fake accounts and
generate spam profiles on our sites, and despite all of our efforts some have managed to slip

Now to the method of finding backlink opportunities by using a profile username:

Step 1: Use the following formula in google: niche/category forum +member list e.g. software
forum +member list

Step 2: The vast majority of the results should be forum member lists

Step 3: Open some of the sites in the search results

Step 4: Start scanning through the forum usernames for spammy-looking users, and open their
profile page by clicking on their username, profile spam is so bad that you tend to find a candidate
on the first go.

Tip: spammy users tend to have few or no posts, and contain numbers in the username.

Note, sometimes you get errors like “Sorry! The administrator has disabled the list of members.” If
that happens you can just view forum threads individually to harvest username candidates, or skip
that forum all together.

Step 5: Look at the users profile signature, homepage details, etc for outbound links that are do-
follow.

Reminder: If you want to check do-follow status of a link, enable one of the plug-ins mentioned in
the introduction such as SEO Quake.

Step 6: Now if the profile has an outbound do-follow link generated by the user, then copy the URL
and paste it into some kind of tracking document like notepad, excel.



Step 7: Almost the same condition as step six needs to be true, (If the profile has an outbound link
generated by the user, regardless of nofollow or dofollow) then copy the profile username.

Step 8: Paste the profile username into Google, Bing or Yahoo with quotes (or without).

Tip: I have noticed Google tends to return vastly more results, than its competitors do, when
searching by profile usernames.

Tip: In some instances profile pages may not be returned, this depends on the username queried, so
you can try improving the query by adding +profile e.g. bob442 +profile

Lastly, Step 9: Open all links listed in the search results, the majority should be profile pages on
different forums, many allowing backlinks. Copy the URL of any backlink opportunity you might wish
to pursue into some kind of tracking sheet.

More websites then you could visit in a lifetime utilize systems powered by third-parties, such as
Content Management Systems (CMS) like Wordpress and Joomla, or Forums like vBulletin and
PhpBB.

These forum engines, CMS platforms normally place a “Powered by...” in the footer, by default, of
every website that utilizes them. For example, many installations of wordpress have “powered by
wordpress” in the footer.

What does all this “powered by wordpress”, “powered by vBulletin”, etc mean?

It means finding websites that use a particular Powered by system is easy. Just type “powered by
[insert type]” into Google and you will get a big list of websites, predominately powered by
whatever you replaced [insert type] with.

How does Powered by searches benefit your backlink finding efforts?

Certain systems allow for prolific placement of do-follow backlinks, whereas other systems are
stricter. Example, Wordpress blogs implement no-follow for all comment links by default, whereas
most versions of BlogEngine.NET have do-follow turned on by default.

So searching for "Powered by BlogEngine" should unearth tonnes of do-follow link building options,
whereas “powered by wordpress” would return far fewer.

Therefore, in summary, “powered by...” searches are a useful link-finding method to have in your
arsenal.

Simple really, they are applications designed to find URL’s to websites, preferable ones that allow
placement of backlinks.

Is link harvesting grey-hat, white-hat or black-hat?

Link Harvesting Tools are grey-hat in my opinion, but in Google’s eyes who knows - a question for
Matt Cutts.

I, Michael Doring, would guess Google views them as black-hat, why do I think that – I cannot see
Google saying the following:

“Hey go get yourself an automated backlink harvester program that chews up our search
server bandwidth, and then for good-measure find thousands of sites that allow do-follow
backlink placement”.

“Oh and while you’re at it, go to all those sites you found, and create spam-links back to
your own site to screw our PageRank algorithm, and improve your position in the search
results”

“Ok great, you’ve annoyed a bunch of website owner’s with useless contributions just to get
a spam-link”

“Hey but let us pour more accolades on you my spammer-friend, you have done us a great
service by creating a spam epidemic, and now our search results are mostly useless spammy-
websites, cheers. Now most of our users have gone elsewhere, like to Bing, and we are all out
of a job, thank you for using link harvesting tools...”

Ok, it might not have been eloquent to use a fictional rant to emphasis my point, but I doubt Google
wants anyone to use link-harvesting tools. So do so out at your own peril, as always this information
is just for entertainment purposes only. However, I personally doubt they can know/penalize you for
using link harvester tools. Placement of spam backlinks however might get you into hot water, but
that is a controversial and highly debated topic, and is beyond the scope of this eBook.

Warning: Scrapebox is a powerful tool, be careful not to overdo it, and grow your links to fast, as it may
throw up red flags.

I understand the counter-argument, the one everyone bellows, which is “if building links too fast could
cause any trouble with Google, then I could throw up thousands of links overnight to a competitor, and
get him banned from Google, or thrown-out of the top 10”. A counter-argument of mine: if I were on the
Google web-spam team, I could write an algorithm as follows: I would have all the top 100 (existing)
results immune from damage from a sudden, and excessive, amount of links. However if an unknown, or
site not in the top 100, tried to create a massive amount of links in one go, I would flag them as
suspicious, and reduce the value of those links for a time, and have follow-up algorithms watch-the site
for other spam-signals, like are all those links from blog comments, or forum profiles. Anyway, my point is
that algorithmically a lot can be done, be careful in all that you do, as one day Google might get clever,
and create a spam-proof algorithm, or at least more-resistant to link-spam.

Further supporting evidence of my viewpoint, is the video Can I flag spammy links to my site that I didn't
create? By Matt Cutts that states ‘...we removed the language that it’s impossible for a competitor to hurt
another competitor and replaced it with language along the lines of its very hard...whenever we write an
algorithm for example that looks at incoming links we do think about, ok, what if a competitor tried to
hurt someone else, and we try to put in code to make sure that is not easy to do’

Bonus Info: My nonsensical rant about Forum Profile Backlinks

 The vast majority of forum profiles, and threads, have a Google Page Rank of zero.

 Link juice on a web page is-shared amongst all do-follow links. Therefore, more links
on a web page means greater dilution of page juice that flows to each outbound
link. In short, avoid getting links from web pages that already have a truckload of
do-follows - it is not worth it.

 Signature based links are primarily self-promoting, and therefore not editorial
(merit-based). My prediction, Google will create an algorithm to detect signature-
based links. Hell, I am a programmer and could probably write an algorithm given
the time and resources. Ok, step away from the shotgun, I was only kidding, I
promise not to write an algorithm like-that, but if I create my own search engine
one day, all bets are off.

 Forum profile links tend to have a high-rate of death because moderators find them
eventually, or turn-on “nofollow”, etc, so they are not the best for sustainability.

 When someone gets popular, it screws up naming conventions, when I first started
Internet Marketing, and for a year after that, I mistakenly walked around saying
“Angela Links”, “Angela Backlinks”... etc, as if she personally owned every site, she
listed in her PDFs, my mistake, as I wrongly used it as a catch all phrase for profile
backlinking. Furthermore, it turns out copyright does not protect ideas, only their
expression, well as far as I know (but as always, I am not a lawyer, so seek legal
advice from a lawyer if needed). Therefore, Angela might own the copyright to her
body of work (PDFs), but only the expression, she would not own the rights to the
third-party domain names she points out, or the idea of profile Backlinking for that
matter. Not that she ever said she did, I am just using her branding of Angela
Backlinks as an example of a naming convention that confused me at the start.
Anyway, so eventually I got to the SIM stage (successful internet marketer) and I
learnt about naming conventions, and a revelation was revealed to me, “it’s called
Profile Backlinking”... aka “Spam profiles”... come to think of it maybe SIM is
actually that game, SIM City... who knows anymore... the point... not sure... just
ranting...

Conclusion:

I have ranted, and raved, and just listed a bunch of poorly related dot-points, and well, all I have
to say for a conclusion is tough luck, make up your own-mind, most successful internet
marketers just research, and then go with whatever gut-feeling they have. So take my dot-point
research, do your own, and get out there and make up your own mind, to create profile
backlinks or not is the question, so answer it already.

Firstly, A word on nofollow:

Link spam is an online epidemic, and this epidemic was the motivating factor behind the creation of the rel= “nofollow” attribute for hyperlinks. The
rel=”nofollow” attribute warns search engines that the website, cannot, or does not, vouch for a link.

Nofollow links do not provide any real SEO value, and thus Wordpress and many other blog platforms, and websites, now use rel=”nofollow” to reduce link
spam from user-generated content like profiles, forum posts and comments.

What is the difference between CommentLuv members and non-members?

I am no expert when it comes to CommentLuv and consequently you may find a better answer using Google. Nevertheless, here goes nothing, as
far as I know, non-members and members both have a backlink to their latest post displayed under their comment on CommentLuv enabled sites.
That is it for non-members, no other perks. However, members can apparently have up to 10 of their latest posts displayed in a dropdown when
you hover-over the heart symbol. In addition, members can pay to have a default URL used instead of the latest post URL, more details at

How to Find CommentLuv enabled sites:
Websites that have CommentLuv enabled should have a little CommentLuv banner image and sometimes say, “This site uses CommentLuv...” or “This site
uses KeywordLuv” in the comment writing section.

Note: The below process is for Forums Powered by phpBB, the process should be very similar for most Forum types. However, be mindful of slight
variations for different versions and forum engines.

How-to signup to a forum:

Step 1: Click the Register link on the forum

Step 2: Select when you were born.



Step 3: Click ‘I agree to these terms’

Note: The red blotches cover my Forums website name.

Step 4: Fill in the registration form (use Roboform to auto-fill)



Step 5: Once registration is complete, what happens next depends on the Forums registration settings.

a. If the Forums account activation is set to ‘None’, you should be able to login straight away.



b. If the Forums account activation is set to ‘By User’, you will need to check your email, and click the registration link to activate.

c. If the Forums account activation is set to ‘By Admin’, this means you cannot login until an administrator activates you account.



Once you have signed up, and activated your account, on the Forum, you can edit your profile, and add a backlink to your signature:

Step 1: Click Login and enter your username and password.

Step 2: Click User Control Panel

Step 3: Click Profile and you can then edit your profile settings.

Preface: I answered this question on the Warrior Forum, and thought I would copy my answer into this eBook. The Warrior Forum post is located at http://www.warriorforum.com/main-internet-

eBook, and I hope you find my answer helpful. I wish someone told me much earlier some of the ideas below.

Firstly, I could write 500 pages on what I have learnt, and what I would do different. I started out on my internet-marketing journey in Sydney, Balmain on
New Year’s Eve 2009. For months now, I had been planning design of a sports betting application, and had 20 GBs of research, and a 200-page planning
document, but no website.

However, that New Year’s Eve night, over few-to-many, a mate already pursing IM gave me an idea to create a website. So come January 1st 2010 I had
registered my first domain name for internet marketing. It failed. However, a year later come February 2011, I finally started having the elusive $100 days,
and even $300 days, so I quit work, and for 3 months now I have been a full-time IM, and still $100 days, and my online assets are growing.

When I first started I was a perfectionist, I invested too much time into learning, and doing stupid things. So, now that you know the short version to my IM
success, what would I do different, lots, but the standout things I would change are:

 Shed my dreaming (just-learn/talk) habits much earlier, and become a doer.
 I knew the core concepts to start my IM a week-in, but my perfectionist side got the better of me, and I spent months learning theory and taking no
action. If I could go back, I would keep in mind, the light-switch theory that goes something like ‘you don’t need to know everything about
electricity to flick a light switch.’ I would take action much sooner.
 I also would have gone part-time at work, and focused on IM. You should only go part-time, or quit work, if you have the financially stability to
survive without a job, or on part-time wages.
 I would have started a foot-in-the-door, affiliate site at the very start. As affiliate sites, that have some SEO, and/or lots of content, tend start
earning you $30 a day before long, and when that hits $100, you can say goodbye to your day job, and swear your head-off at your previous
ungrateful employer and tell him you quit.
 I would program-my-mind to not be a perfectionist, and just do. If I find myself going down the path of perfectionism, I would say to myself just
one-word, “versioning”, this word reminds me that I can always make it better later, version 2, 3, 4 can be the one that gives me that insane-crazy-

person-unrealistic-feeling of its perfect. P.S. I have never heard “versioning” used in this way before, it’s my own idea, and it truly works, try saying
“versioning” to yourself as it’s a great word to steer you back to being a doer.
 I would have invested in a whiteboard to start-with. I use to get overwhelmed every day, up until about a month ago when I purchased a white-
board. I had so many websites, tasks, and ideas that every day I was waking up with a feeling of dread. Everything I had to do kept floating around
in my brain, stressing me out. However, when I got that whiteboard, I put everything on it. For example, under headings I would put everything I
had to do, such as for x website I put every task I have planned for that bad boy, I added my financial state to the whiteboard, a section for urgent
tasks, etc.

In summary, if I could go back in time knowing what I know now, I would change so much, but the core three things related to IM would be, 1. Get a white
board to remove the stress, 2. Stop just-learning - learn on the run, 3. Become a doer.

Notably, it has two distinct parts. One is SeoBar, which is a toolbar that shows certain parameter values, like PageRank, for whatever page you currently
have open in your browser window.

The second part is, is Inclusion of parameters in SERPs (search engine result pages). It shows a set of parameters under each search result.



Note: All parameters displayed are customizable.

SEOquake has a huge range of default parameters. Users can even create their own. Some of the parameters (things SEOquake can tell you about a
webpage) are:

Warning: Use of SEOquake can get your IP address banned from Google, this is because each time it needs to obtain a new value (PageRank, etc) for a
webpage it queries Google, and excessive Google querying can seem spammy, and lead to IP bans. Generally, it is only a temporary ban, so just wait a few
hours and you should have access to Google again. If you want to avoid IP address ban from Google when using SEOquake, try using it sparingly. Also,
