Networking A virtual community for both countries!! Workshop seeking for sinergies with project CONECTA, an HIV/AIDS innitiative of USAID-DR Workshop with the Peace Corps of both countries, Haiti and the Dominican Republic.  Volunteers have been pretty helpful with some of the local NGOs along the border. Workshop on reproductive health for young women.  On the picture, governors of both, the Sud-Est (Haiti) and Barahona (DR) departments, along with the representant of the OAS in the DR.

Reaching different stakeholders An interesting visit to Grupo M, Ouanaminthe  National seminar on Human Rights and Democracy at the DR’s Foreig Affairs Ministery, with participants from both countries and international especialists provided by the OAS. Workshop with the media from both countries.  We aimed at improving their relations, access to info & showing a “better side” of the Haitian – Dominican relations. Pretty interesting… First official meeting of potencial members of a “Task Force” for the development of the border. Workshop with PMR2 (EU), DGDF and NGOs from the border.  They were taught how to access EU funds.  PADF provided the required technical assistance and some NGOs have already started to tap into new funding sources for their very first time. Opening of the beekeepers new office in Dajabón, DR.  On the picture, the Haitian Ambassador in the DR (Fritz Cineas);  the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS (Albert Ramdin) and John Sanbrailo (PADF’s Executive Director in Washington) With the Mayor of Ouanaminthe, during an official visit to the border with PADF’s Board, including high OAS officials. The presentation of the 2006 Inter American Leadership Award to President Fernández
AS FINAL WORDS…
The border offers opportunities for development (even geopolitically speaking)   Local organizations are becoming “subjects” of change, instead of mere objects.  There’s “room” for us all;
This  USAID  initiative is seen as a reference and is helping build the basis for future, bigger, social/private investments.
