The five precepts are a set of Buddhist ethical guidelines that encourage positive behavior and discourage harmful actions. The five precepts are: 1) abstaining from harming living beings, 2) abstaining from taking what is not given, 3) abstaining from sexual misconduct, 4) abstaining from false speech, and 5) abstaining from intoxicating substances. Buddhists follow the precepts to cultivate compassion and wisdom and progress toward enlightenment. Students are asked to consider which precept would be most difficult for them to follow and why.
