Three Circles Approach
The three circles approach is highly important, especially for the team leader but it also applies
to the rest of the team. The first part is about actually achieving the task, for this to be done we
have to listen to what the leader has to say and follow instructions carefully. As well as this, our
leader actually has to explain clearly what they have to do to reduce questions and possible
mistakes. He will need to allocate roles to us so that we use their strengths to their advantage
and by doing this we will need a plan, however we also need to make our strengths clear at the
same time. We also have to report our progress so that our leader can keep the team up to date
on deadlines and requirements.
Next there is the team management area which of course is more applicable to our leader but
this involves forming communications within the team so that progress can be discussed and if
possible members can help each other with their roles. The leader has to set out our approach
which can either be done through personal judgment or we can collaborate together to find the
best way the team can work with. Our leader will have to make sure the team stays out of
conflict as this would reduce our working speed. Together we will have to develop our own
specialized approach in regards to how we will do our work. Finally we need to give each other
feedback and constructive criticism to tell each other what's going well and what we can
improve on, by keeping the negative parts paired with advice we can boost the mood of the
team.
Finally there is management for specifically the team members rather than the team itself. This
involves improving the team members own skills rather than those they own as part of a team.
First of all the most important thing is that our team leader ensures we are all treated as
individuals and that they understand our skills and personality. Our leader needs to not only to
manage us but also to assist and support us with our work and he needs to set individual goals
specific to us rather than the whole team. We also need to be given some freedom so that the
team operation doesn’t feel industrialized but also so that we aren’t left too much freedom that
we feel alienated. Finally the leader needs to give us training and advice on parts we have
never done before, a person can’t just code games without any training.
