We’ve been focused on fixing bugs in software. Finding bugs takes time. Too much time. - #3: In an ideal world, there would be no bugs – Developers wouldn’t make any mistakes, and everything would be on time.
- #4: But, we’re not in an ideal world – so the root problems are hard to find. We can’t use all our tools all the time, and everything’s against the clock.
- #5: So what’s new? Until now, we couldn’t record the history of variables’ values, or replay the execution of all the statements, or simply cut the costs. Now we can.
- #6: Once upon a time in Poland (no, this isn’t the next chapter in the Witcher series,) we were writing a cheque for our Fortune 500 client. Why? Because we had been debugging their project for 3 days and achieved nothing. We were dead in the water. Then, another team tried out the Time Machine prototype. What happened next blew us all away. In 15 minutes time, it found the very root of the problem. “Put the cheque book away, guys!!!” It was literally 80 times faster than anything else. Bug fix number 11869 was only the beginning…
- #7: The beginning is a great time at .NET. When Microsoft Visual Studio community edition was launched, it was downloaded 7 million times in its first 10 months. This is, Time Machine for .NET and it runs on Visual Studio. Over its 2 years development, seeds investments worth EUR 700k have gone into this project. The next step is getting partners and resellers on board, and lunching this $25 per month innovation onto the market.
