Title sequence
- 1. TITLE SEQUENCE B Y K R I S T IAN
- 2. SEVEN (1995) • Sound: Throughout the title sequence of Seven there is no music and barely any diegetic sound. Most of the noises you here are background noises you would hear in a city centre for example car horns, trucks driving by and people shouting. You can only here them faintly when the actors are talking but they really stick out when Morgan Freeman’s character goes to sleep. When the title starts showing then there is a mysterious music that starts to play which fits with the movie genre (Mystery, Thriller).
- 3. • Cinematography: There are mostly medium shots (start of the movie) used so you have a clear shot of who stands out and is important and there are also some close ups used to focus on important items like the ones Morgan Freemans character picks up and pictures on the fridge. There are dark and low key lighting to emphasis the crime genre and there are always dark clouds and rain outside foreshadowing something bad is going to happen.
- 4. • Editing: There are some shot reverse shots throughout the conversations but, other than that there are only straight cuts and one cut that is in sync with the thunder striking. The title editing is slow to fit with the music. • Typography: The typography is handwritten which gives a ruff edge to the words when they come up on screen. The handwriting also fits well with the music that is played and the un focused photos that flash on the screen
- 5. TAKING LIVES (2004) • Sound: The start of the movie starts off with happy music playing the music plays on for quite a while as nothing is happening except establishing the main charterer. The music stops the second the car breaks down and the music changes to more sinister music. There aren’t any special sounds exempt when the car breaks down there are more sound then there should have been.
- 6. • Cinematography: The shot tell us a story of how the character is insecure, but you can also see this buy the close up of his face. The angle shot tells us the characters are similar in a way. Because they are in a confined area there are mostly medium shots except when the car breaks down there is a long shot to show that something is coming and is going to happen.
- 7. • Mise en Scene: Mat is confident and happy to be going where he wants to go, he seems happy to have made a new friend and doesn’t mind being on the run. Martin on the other hand is insecure and wants to keep to himself after a while when they get to know each other he becomes more open and secure until he know he has to kill him.
- 8. • Editing: There are only cuts that are going at a slow pace because the characters are just getting to know each other and there isn’t anything special or fast pace going on. • Typography: The title sequence consists of a montage with a type writer writing the names of the actors. Other than that there is nothing special about the title sequence.
- 9. FEAR ISLAND • Sound: The sounds are very intense in the first few shots, there is heavy breathing along with shouting police officers and fast pace drums. There is fast pace music playing until she gets caught the sounds dim down.
- 10. • Cinematography: They use POV shots as she is running through the woods as well as long shots when she runes through the woods. There are more POVs as the police get closer. There is an extreme close up of the knife in her hand. There are also long shots of her hiding and by the way her body language is she doesn’t know what’s going on.
- 11. • Mise en Scene: On the island she is either running or crouched down as if she was protecting herself from something and the knife in her hand is focused on but the way she looks she is in shock and doesn’t know she has a knife. The Doctors is strong and stands up for herself while the maverick cop is annoyed and angry.
- 12. • Editing: There is a fast pace editing whenever she is in the woods and it fades to black when the police capture her. Through the woods there is a montage skipping back and forth from when she is hiding and when she is running. • Typography: The font fits with the island theme and the way you can see the grass sway in the background of the fonts fits with the island and so does the way the text disappears as if the water washes it away.
- 13. IDENTITY (2003) • Sound: The movie starts off with the sound of thunder and a voice over of the tape being re winded. There is a faint soft music playing over as the recorder plays over the interview. • Cinematography: There is extreme close ups of the files and papers laying across the desk. There is also a bird’s eye view of his desk as it pans over the files.
- 14. • Mise en Scene: The Doctor sits there in silence listening to the tape while looking over the files. His facial expression is plane and concentrated. • Editing: As the doctor rewinds of speeds up the tape there are fast paces of editing until he stops speeding it up it continues to pan across the files until the next time he speeds it up. • Typography: There is a montage of names popping up on the screen and the names fade leaving one letter to fade last until the faded letters spell the tittle name.
