TMCS - Guide to Data Acquisition Systems (Daq
Systems)
A data acquisition system (daq) is a data collection and processing system that consists of a computer, sensors,
and measuring devices. It takes information about a real-world system and saves it in a retrievable manner in
engineering and scientific research.
Sensors that translate physical events into quantifiable signals, signal conditioners that optimize electrical
signals, analog-to-digital converters that digitize analogue inputs, and software tools like as LabVIEW are all
vital components of a daq.
A daq system may detect current, voltage, strain, frequency, pressure, temperature, distance, vibration, angles,
digital signals, and weight, among other things.
A daq system provides precision, flexibility, scalability, and programmability. Daq is used in a variety of
industries, including automobile production, aerospace defense, electronics, and national instruments (ni)
instruments.
Essential components of data acquisition system:
Sensors:
The primary function of sensors and transducers is to interact with the item being measured. Physical
phenomena like as light, temperature, pressure, position, sound, and so on are converted into measurable
signals such as voltage and current.
A. Signal Conditioners:
The electrical signals acquired by the sensors may be corrupted by noise or interference and must be processed
before use. The signals are often too faint for the data collecting equipment to detect. As a result, extra
circuitry is used to optimize signal. This additional gear is referred to as a signal conditioner in the technical
world. As a result, signal conditioning is the process of making signals as error-free as feasible.
B. Analog-to-Digital Converters:
This DAQ module is in charge of digitalizing analogue inputs. This chip's role is to receive information from its
surroundings and convert it into discrete levels that a computer can interpret.
C. Software Application (LabVIEW):
National Instruments LabVIEW, which also supports a broad range of devices, makes DAQ application creation
simple. LabVIEW is commonly used for automated product EOL testing in a production scenario and is gradually
