Tool – The Pot A lot of Tool videos tend to have a narrative structure to their videos, and this video is no different. In this video stop-motion animation is used, this is because the band Tool are known for their artist and very experimental songs and videos, and although the songs lyrics are not in anyway related to the images, the editing is done to a way which is related. Tool also tend to use a lot of dark imagery in their songs, and it also shows in their videos. A lot of the imagery in these videos have very little relation to the music, but a lot of the video is filled with surreal images.
oomph! - augen auf This is a gothic rock video, and it has a lot of commonly associated images in the video - lots of disturbing clips of children and their demonic faces, most of the members in the band are wearing black and have facial piercings. The camera shots also cut between the narrative of the video and the band in time with the song. There are also lots of close ups of the band members faces - playing their instruments. This video highly references the film - The Shining and the wicker man - because there is two little twins sitting side by side, wearing old fashioned gowns, and a man wearing a animal mask – very similar to the ones in the Wicker man. In translation the lyrics talks about children playing innocent games like hid and seek, while the music video contradicts this because the children are not innocent, their evil. The majority of Oomph’s videos are located in creep houses of dark alleyways, this helps set the mood of the songs which are usually quiet dark in there meanings.
30 Seconds To Mars: Kings and Queens In this video The camera does cut between the band and the narrative. This gives up plenty of close up shots of the lead sing. The song lyrics are about harmony and people coming together, which can be linked the video because it show up hundreds of people all riding bikes along side each other. The style in which this video is shot, uses a lot of rich dark colours and not only gives us great cinematography, but also gives us the impression that this is a epic, very powerful song. The video looks very crisp And I like it because it has some wonderful shot moments, and some great long shots that you see so rarely in music videos. The film is shot around LA at night time, so that they could great some beautiful shot of the city with all the lights gleaming. This also adds to the idea that they wanted to make a video that looked great for their newly released single.
