TOOLS USEDBy Namibia McLean 12R
Here are the names of some of the tools I used within Photoshop CS3Selection Tool: This acts like the basic pointer and selects text boxes, images, layers etc.Lasso Tool: I used this by drawing freehand the area I wanted to fill in or get rid of and by simply pressing backspace after this selection it then fills or deletes the area. This can also be cut or copied into another area on the pageMagic Wand Tool: This highlights the area that I would like to change for example fill in or deleteCropping Tool: This slices the unwanted parts of mainly imagesBrush Tool: This paints over selected areas in a colour selected by the userClone Stamp Tool: This samples a small part of an image and transfers the pixels elsewhere in the image.Eraser Tool: This erases errors made when correcting an image in usually a white paint but can be used for the same function as the Brush ToolHorizontal Type Tool: This create text boxes so that the user can write things on the pageRectangle Tool: This creates rectangular boxesEyedropper Tool: This selects a specific colour within an image or text to give an exact colour resultZoom Tool: This simply zooms in and out of an imageSwitch Foreground and Background Colours: Self explanatory but switches the colours around(Found when right clicking on selected layer) This copies the selected layer and makes another layer with the same features as the original one(Found when right clicking on the selected layer) This deletes the selected layerLayer Visibility: This hides the chosen layerCreate Layers: This tool makes new layersDelete Layers: This deletes unwanted layers This highlights the pixels in a image in a magnetic motion; it sticks to the pixels and highlights the area in the image that the user would like to change
Here are the names of some of the tools I used within Photoshop CS3This erases the step that the user just did for example if a user just copied an image into Photoshop CS3 that they didn’t they simply press undo and it goesIf a user wants the step they just did back (in case they pressed the ‘undo tool’ or the ‘step backward’ tool then they can press step forward and it redoes the step that was just erasedThis is exactly the same as the ‘undo tool’ apart from the fact that it erases several stepsThis takes away a selected area for it to be deleted or copied into another spaceThis duplicates the selected area so it can be pasted somewhere else on the page or another documentThis puts the image, text, clipart etc, into the pageIf something is highlighted then this simply stops the selection being highlightedIf an outside of a graphic is highlighted and the person wanted the inside to be highlighted then they would use this tool to inverse the selection so that the graphic was selectedLike the sharpening tool this changes the edges of a graphic. This can make a graphic smooth, sharp blurred etcThis makes the graphic on the page more precise Like the refining edge tool this does exactly the same thing but with less detail
Here are some briefly explained examples of the tools I used in Photoshop CS3Blending optionsHere I am able to click on a range of options to change the way my font looks by making it glow, giving it a shadow etc.To get to this I left clicked on the layer so that the layer was selected. I then right clicked so that a list of options came up which are displayed to the right. I then left clicked on blending options. My final choice was to give the font a drop shadow, inner shadow and bevel and emboss. Here is my final result.BeforeAfter
This is the layer I want to view by itself. So to do this I click on the selective tool and click on the layer visibility tool for each layer apart from the one that I wanted to view by itself.Layer visibilitySuppose I needed to look at one convention on my magazine as I just wanted this convention on my page or see the magazine without a specific convention. First I would go to my layers. As you can see some of the conventions on my masthead have disappeared such as the selling line and the masthead. I now carry this on for the rest of my layers.I have now selected all the layers to be hidden and this is the final product.BeforeAfter
Lasso ToolI then by freehand draw on the area I want to get rid off.As previously explained the lasso tool helps to get rid of unwanted areas or copy them to another part of the page. However for this example I will delete the unwanted area. Firstly I click on the lasso tool which is located to the left hand side of the screenThis is my final product.I end up with my area highlighted. To get rid of the area I then press the keys ‘CTRL’ and ‘Delete’ together.BeforeAfter
Brush ToolThe brush tool helps to paint over a specific tool with a specific colour. It also stays in the line of the selected image meaning that everything outside the selected area won’t be disturbed. To start using the brushing tool I select it from the tools which again is located on the left hand side of the page.I can either start painting on the area directly or there is another simpler way of getting a smoother resultI then paint over the area that is selected by clicking on the Brush Tool and by holding and dragging the left click on the mouse.I can highlight the area that we want to paint using the ‘Lasso Tool’ (Slide 6). I draw on the selected area so that it becomes highlighted. This is my final product.BeforeAfter
