1. Advertising
“‘If a movie isnotbeingspokenabout, isitgood?’ [Insertof a screenshotwith the quote] It is
believedthatyoungpeopletodayare becominglessaware of upcomingfilms,basedonthe factwe
relymore nowon whatgets saidabouta title online.Due toa long-runningmarketingtechnique,
word-of-mouth, [Insertscreenshotofdictionarydefinition] we findourselvesbasingpersonal
opinionsoff of whatsocial mediahasusbelieving.Withthis, ithasbecome anissue forsome
creatorswhose titlesaren’tashypedasothers.Nomatter how much marketingisusedforthe
product,it takesan audience tocreate a fanbase ina way.
One goodexample of this,RidleyScott. [Insertprofessional image ofhim] An EnglishFilmDirector

[Play audio] Continuingon,Scottgoeson to sayhow it’sbecomingarisingissue, more specificallyto
hiswords,“I thinkwe’re dealingwithitrightnow withFacebook.There isamisdirectionthathas

What’sfunnythough,isthat audienceshave disagreedwithScott'sstatement [Reveal headline]
findingthatthe movie hadpooradvertisingdone foritsinitialrelease.Gainingplentyof backlash
overTwitter, [Include a fewfoundtweetsand read themout loudin for the voice over].
Andjustbecause Ridleywasone of the manyapart of thisproject, doesn’tmeantheyall agree with

2. Online Marketing
“Unlike Mr. RidleyScott, some creatorswithin the industryhave figuredouthow toovercome that
issue withthe lackof recognitionformostmovie releases.RyanReynoldsforexample, [Insert
professional image of him],he familiarisedhimself withtechnologyandsocial media, andhis
interactionswithfans [Insertscreenshotsthatbacks up my point] are what greatlyimpactedthe
successful release of ‘Deadpool’ [insertposter] backin 2016. Especiallyconsideringthe hate the film

whatwenton yearsearlierinthe ‘X-menorigins:Wolverine’. [InsertPoster] Yeah...[Insertclipof

So really,fortoday'ssetof generations,whatworksbestwithattractinganaudience,isusingsocial
media.Havingthatonline experience asthe goto marketingscheme hasgotto be the bestway
nowadaysasit worksin gainingfans,andgettingthose audiencesexitedforprojectswhichwould
currentlybe inthe works.Whereas, itisclear now, that those whodon’tuse social mediaplatforms
as a way to boostup the successof a filmorserieseven, wouldonlybe riskingthatpossible success
as it wouldbarelyreachthe creatorsexpectations.
Backingthe previousstatementupmore,ithasbeenevidencedevenmore sobya surveyI hadput

youusuallyhearaboutupcomingmovies?’.Havingatotal of 24 applicantstake part,thisgave me 24

3. The takeoverof streaming services (Changedfrom‘Physical copiesbecominglessvalued’)
In 2022 now, itis believedthatatthistime we are reachingthe endof the DVD era withstreaming
services [Social mediaiconsone by one fillingup the screen, with a pop soundeffectbeingplaying
for everypop up] becomingthe go-to. Beingaroundsince 1999, that makesDVDsa short-lived
mediaformatconsideringtheyhaven’treallybeenaroundthatlong.EspeciallycomparedtoVHS
tapeswiththemlastingatleast25years before discsbegantakingover.
Notthat people are reallysurprisedbythis, comingacrossa website titled‘avforums.com’, [Show
website] a blogbysomeone callingthemselves‘FamilyGuy’hadpredictedthatthe DVDformat
wouldn’tlastaslongwithhowadvancedeverythingwasbecoming. [Insertthe blog] Andthiswas
postedbackin 2005. Scrollingthroughthe commentsof the saidblog, manyhadfoundthemselves
agreeingwithhim. But,there were alsopeople believingDVDshadmanymore yearsaheadof them
due to [Insertquote from blog] how “people are perfectlyhappywithDVD.”
Goingback to the streamingservicesnow, there are of course bothprosand cons to this industry
takingoverthe filmindustry.Andthe pandemichasonlygone andmade it worse...betterforthem,
not somuch for otherindustriesImean. One example Ihave?DisneyPlus. [Insertlogo] Now,we all
knowhowgreedyDisneyare,butdoyou remember thatfeature?Thatextrasubscriptionwhere a
newmovie wouldgetreleasedonthe platformatthe same time as itsrelease inthe theatres,
allowinganyone apartof itto streamwithfirstday access.Well thatcausedthose apart of the
actual projectto lose outon a lot.EvencausedScarlettJohanson [Insertprofessional image] to
speakup aboutit when‘BlackWidow’ [Insertposter] hadhittheatres.Fromthere,Dwayne Johnson
[Insertprofessional image] and Emma Stone [Insertprofessional image] hadconsidereddoingthe
same for theirrecenttitles. [Insertbothposters] Addingon, itsnotjust those whoworkedonthe
filmseither.Thisaffectedcinemaemployeesto. [Reveal cinemabrands]
Otherthan that though, audiencesare actuallypreferring the comfortof bingingonline athome
rather thangoingthroughthe cinematicexperience.Comingfromastreamingcritic,the waythe
describedthissituationwas,asquoted, [Insertquote] “The filmindustryiscompetingwithpeople
whodon’twant to leave theirhouse,andtheycansee...anymovie theywant,anytime...that’shuge
competition.”Yes,streamingservicesare makingtheirmoney,butwhataboutthe those who
workedhardto give usthe moviesmade?Aswell asthose whoworkatthe cinemas. Many studios
and creatorsare losingouton moneyall because people prefertobeingable tostreama movie they
wantto watch, fromhome.
One thingthough, there are pros the streamingindustryhasdone forthe film, andthat’sabout
streamingservicesreducingthe use of piracy. [Insertarticle section] So althoughmoneysbeinglost
insome cases,it’sstill beinggainedinotherways.
I understandthough,it’snoteveryoneasthere are still plentywhoenjoyseeingtitlesonthe big
screen.Imyself, love thatexperience andIam well aware thatI am notthe onlyone.Just, the
numbersare addingup forthose whodon’tenjoygoingtothe picturesknowingfine well theycan

4. Lack of originality
[Inserta clip from Scream 2 where theytalk of sequels]
“Somethingthatdoesn’treallyhelpthe filmindustryhalf of the time, isthe lackof originalitygiven
to the audience.Yeswe getmomentsthatbecome cliches, andstoriesthatgetretoldover [insert

countsas what I am referencingtorightnow, issequelsandprequelswhichgetchuckedatus for

Withthis, there are two waysan audience will goaboutanannouncement.Mostof the time,we are

Addingontothe perfectstand-alonemovieseven, [Jokersequel news] clearlyforthe moneydue to
the successof the first, puttingalot of the audience off. [Tweetsrespondingtothe news] Andwhen
it ismoviespeoplegethypedfor,expectationsgetraisedwhichusuallyendswithdisappointedfans.
Whichof course,iswhere word-of-mouthcomesintoplayloweringthe sales.
I’mnot sayingall franchisesare bad,as that woulddefinitelynotbe true withsome sequelsand
rebootsturningoutbetterthanthe original.It’sjust,some companiescontinue togooverboard
gettinggreedyoverthe successof the firstproject, whichwithsome caseseventhe targetaudience
will come outand saythat is enough.Like ‘Terminator’, [InserteveryTerminatormovie poster] they
shouldjuststopmessingwiththatstoryline.
It’snot everyone either,ascelebritieshave come tolearnthatsequelsaren’talwaysworthit.Jim
Carrey [insertprofessional image] for instance, doing‘DumbandDumberto’ [InsertPoster] and
‘Ace Ventura:WhenNature Calls’. [InsertPoster] Seeingthattheyweren’tdoingaswell asthe first

beentryingtoget Carreyinfor a sequel.ButI guessthe SonicMovie [insertsonic1,2 poster] hadan
exception.Beingquestionedonitactuallyinarecentactually,as quotedthisiswhathe said, "I don't

5. Piracy (Changedfrom‘Pirating’)
“You rememberthatoldadvertisement,right?Thatone advertisementburntintoall of ouroldDVDs
back inthe early2000s, playingrightbefore the filmwouldbegin.A real nostalgicblastfromthe
past.Still don’tknowwhichImean?Here: [Play the clip] Piracy,it’sa crime,remembernow?
Well...unfortunately,itissomethingalotof people are doing.It’snotrelativelynew either,thisact
has beenaroundsince the silenterabetween1895 to 1929. Back thenthough, itwas called
“bicycling”.
Surelyyouknow whatpiratingis, forjustincase though: [Insertdictionary definitionandread from

youmay be wonderinghowdidpiracyexistwhenthe internetdidn’t?Well,stilldoingthe same

But nowwithus inthe modernworld,we have internetaccess.Withthatinternetaccess, copiesare
beingdownloadedandstreamed.Eventhough,it'snotsomethingwe shouldbe doing,causingthose
whoworkedonthese films, tolose outona huge percentage of the moneytheyshouldhave been

Takenfrom an article founddiscussingthistopic, aquote wasfoundI justhave to share:“More than
half of all NorthAmericanmillennialsregularlyuse pirate streamingservicestowatchTV-showsor
movies,anew surveyshows.While legal streamingispreferred,piratesourcesare more popular
than traditional TV,DVDsorBlu-Rays.”
As itsounds,we have alreadyestablishedhow mostaudiencestodayare happyenoughtositat

course, [Insertarticle] leadtothe filmonlymakinglessthanhalf of whatthe firsthadtitle had.
Understandablyannoyedwiththis,postedonto‘MySpace’,the Directorwentontopredictthat

6. Spoilers
“Goingfor the audience specificallyhere, spoilershave becomeahuge issue.Andeverybodyknows
this.Aswithhuge upcomingreleases,‘Avengers:Endgame’ [InsertPoster] and‘Spiderman:NoWay

Andwhenthisdoeshappen,itcan putaudiencesoff goingtosee the movie.Especiallyforhighly

Wantingto avoidthis, fanswill evenavoidsocialmediafromthe dayof release uptill theyhave

everyone.
With‘Spiderman:NoWayHome’doing so well, making[Include numbers] overone billionatthe
box office, the filmhadbrokenrecordsmaking [include numbers] $260 milliononitsopening

basedoff of fear.No one wantedtobe spoiled, sotryingtoavoidthis, everyone wantedtobe the
firstto see it.From this,a filmcritichadcome out saying[Show quote] ‘We all now treatregular
storytellingasmega-spoilers.”Withanotherquestioningwhetherornot people todayare onlygoing
to the cinemasto avoidspoilers, orisit all because the mostpopularreleasesare the onesfull of
“spoilable elements”.
In the surveyIhad mentionedpreviously,Ihadalsoquestionedwhatitwasthatput some audiences
off of goingtothe cinemas. Two,of those applicants, broughtupspoilers.Withone wordingit [show

pointthat spoilers,doinfact,putpeople off.Andasstatedtimesbefore,usbeingputoff watching
that filmatthe pictures,islessmoneygoingbacktothe filmindustry.Don’tsee how that’sour
issue?Well thatmoneywe use tosee movies,goestowardsstudiosputtingtogethernewer,better
performedandmore impressive titlesthroughoutthe upcomingyears.
Yes,I get twodoesn’tsoundlike muchof anissue.Bu,justbecause that’sthe numberof those
mentioneditonmysurvey, are the onlyonesputoff by spoilers.Addingtothat,a threadon reddit
has beendiscoveredthataskspeople, [insertheader] “Dospoilersdiscourage youfromwatchinga

So,in conclusionof this:Spoilerswillannoyandputsome off,whilstthe others?Theyare eithernot

7. Cinemaexperiencesbeingruined

Andnot stoppingthere,aHD versionof the filmhadreleasednotlongafterithit theatres.Which,
