Material
Markers (2 colors); 10 +2 vests; 4 mini-goals.
Week 9 Training 45 Date 25/09/2014 Dominant Specific resistance
Purposes
To develop the offensive transition, with exploration of the
space in the back of the opposite defense; To routine zonal
marking behaviours with low and high block.
Ball possession + offensive transition 5x5+1
Two teams of 5 players and a joker (plays always in the team in ball
possession). Blue team starts with the ball (5+1x3) and their aim is to
keep ball possession and make as many passes as possible. The red
team tries to get the ball, play with their teammates placed outsider of the
field. Once they do this, they must receive the ball in the other side and
then the roles change (red team in possession, blue team without).
Coaching points
Offensively – Maintain ball possession under pressures, with players
giving supports to the ball carrier. Improve passing skills: orientation to
the ball carrier and to the field to have a higher number of passing
options, provide diagonal passing lines (progression), oriented ball
reception according to the passing target. Offensive transition: link the
game in the wing, attack free space, take ball out of pressure, to explore
depth.
Defensively – the closest player to ball carrier reduces space to the ball,
the other 2 close the space, avoiding passes entering in the middle of the
3 players, differentiate the feet to react faster to the ball and opponent
movements.
Load: 15 minutes, intersected with specific mobilization drills.
2 Groups of 11 players,
with the organization
shown in the Picture.
Previous to this drill,
players run 5 minutes and
perform some general
and active stretching.
Ball possession in the offensive midfield with exploration of the
back of adversary defensive line (low block) vs defensive line plus
defensive midfielder (DM) with transition in depth 6x5+GR
The blue team must keep ball possession, changing game center quickly
(long pass), passing ball in width, to get space to explore the depth by
rupture movements of the forwards. The red team closes spaces,
avoiding opposite team to link the creation and finalization zones and
they score in the mini-goals, which simulate linking points of the team
game. After passing the ball tt the mini-goals, players must run to the
blue line.
Coaching points
Offensively – Pass ball fast between players with short passes;
acceleration of the game by changing game center with long passes;
explore rupture movements in the back of the defense (blue team); take
ball out from the pressure in depth; offensive transition exploring the
depth; approximate after playing in depth; change of attitude after ball
recovery (red team).
Defensively – pressure in high block after the loss of ball possession
(closest player reduces space to ball carrier and colleagues close space
in the back of him) (blue team); defensive displacements of the defensive
line, according to the place of the ball (red team).
Load: 4x4 minutes with 4 min. of recovery (11 players are performing the drill
and the others make a rondo of 8x3 to keep body temperature).

Positional attack with DM playing in the middle with ball
possession, lateral defenders (LD) giving depth, central defenders
(CD) more open and wingers playing in the middle (blue team) vs
zonal defending with low block and offensive transitions in depth
exploring the speed of the wingers (red team) GR+10x10+GR
The blue team must play in positional attack, with positional switches
between players, keeping ball possession, with variations of the game
center to accelerate when space is available to explore the space in the
back of the red team, with rupture movements. Once they succeed they
can finalize without opposition (red team cannot enter in the space
limited by the red markers.
The red team defends with a low block, closing spaces in their defensive
third. When the regain ball possession, they must explore the depth as
fast as possible, taking advantage of the advance of the last line of the
blue team. Once the ball enters the space in the back of the blue
defense, a situation of finalization 3x2 occurs.
In the last repetition, the finalization in both goals, will have normal
opposition, with the defenders being allowed to enter on the “forbidden
zones”, when the ball enters there.
Coaching points
Offensively – Use positional attack: support passing lines, alternate short
(to attract opposite defenders) with long passes (to create rupture in the
defensive structure), positional changes between players to get space to
progress (blue team). To explore fast transitions by the wingers, looking
for offensive passes when taking ball out of the pressing zones; to
change quickly of attitude, from defensive to offensive, with high speed
actions of the forwards (red team).
Defensively – Zonal defending with low block: getting players behind the
line of the ball, without pressure, just following ball movement and being
more aggressive in the last third of the pitch; consecutive actions of
defensive cover to keep defensive lines more tight (red team). Pressing
zone method, with high block: players approximate to the ball carrier in
the 1st
phase of construction, especially in the wings, or when opposite
team plays the ball back or defenders receive a ball of difficult reception,
trying to regain ball possession in a advanced zone of the pitch. Control
of the depth in “the back”, defensive recover and defensive cover of the
goal-keeper to the defensive line (blue team).
Load: 3x8 minutes with 2 min. of recovery.
Note: Players will play Gr+10x10+GR in the last 8 minutes of the training
session to observe players acquisitions according to the purposes of the
training session.
