- 1. What I did like about this video is the style, I thought that despite being generally unsatisfied with the video, at least I had a style and a look in mind. However, there was no plot, it was basically just me walking around miming. I have learnt from this however, I believe that now I have to solidly plan my video and have a cohesive idea, instead of just randomly filming anything, I also liked experimenting with black and white and contrast. The performance in the video (I have also learnt) needs to be rehearsed, spontaneity and impulse could be perceived as poor quality and a lack of ideas. My performance in the video was criticised for being over-dramatic and silly. I think that by using the Steadicam vest I could have been more adventurous, and I should have given more direction to the operator I had an idea to represent the melancholy elements of the song by editing it with a grainy “old school film” look and with elements of black and white that I feel go with the song. I did want to break the fourth wall, a close-up of the artist and an interaction with the camera was something that I liked. Also, I did succeed in choosing a location that reflected the urban despondence in the song, but I think using such an enclosed location restricted what I could do. I played it safe, and I came off worse for it. Overall however I don’t like my video, it’s unoriginal and contrived, criticism ranged from the slightly constructive to highly personal and abusive. I don’t think this video represents me fully, but I’ve learnt something from it, and have gained valuable experience in editing software. My song was “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” by The Smiths
