Transitional-devices.pptx LESSON FOR 4TH QUARTER
DIRECTION:
 The class will be divided into 5 groups.
 Each group will have 2 items to assemble the jumbled letters that
being described in the sentences.
 The assembled letters will be paste in a bond paper and put it on
the board according to your group number.
 The first group to assemble the jumbled letters will have 5 points.
ACTIVITY: ASSEMBLE ME!
At the end of lesson, the students are expected
to:
• Identify and use of various types of
transitional devices in the sentences.
TRANSITIONAL DEVICES
- words or phrases that help carry a thought
from one sentence to another, from one idea
to another, or from one paragraph to another.
- links sentences and paragraph together, so
that there are no breaks between ideas.

1. ADDITIONAL
- adds information or expresses agreement with
the preceding material or thought.
Examples:
“She is talented musician and also gifted
painter.”
“He is a great leader. Moreover, he is
well-respected by his team.”
2. CONTRAST
- used to introduce a contrast or
contradiction to the preceding statement
or idea.
Examples:
“He loves the city, whereas she refers
the countryside.”
“I would rather read a book than watch
a movie.”
3. PURPOSE
- set a condition, or state a purpose.
Examples:
“The game was cancelled due to bad
weather.”
“He woke up early so that he wouldn’t
miss the train.”
4. EMPHASIS
- used to provide examples, add emphasis, or
support a statement or idea.
Examples:
“There are many ways to relax, such as
reading a book or taking a walk.”
“There are many ways to stay healthy, for
example, by eating a balanced diet and
exercising regularly.”
5. SUMMARY
- used to summarize points, restate
ideas and draw conclusions.
Examples:
“In conclusion, we are confident that our
proposal will be successful.”
“In a word, the performance was
outstanding.”
6. ORDER
- used to indicate the timing or sequence
of events.
Examples:
“ To begin with, let’s review the agenda.”
“ First, gather the materials. Second, set up
your workplace.”
7.ILLUSTRATION
- used to indicate spatial relationships or
describe locations.
Examples:
“The statue stands in the middle of the
park.”
“He parked his car in front of the house.”
8. RESULT
- words or phrases indicate the outcomes or
results of a certain action or event.
Examples:
“He didn’t study for the test, and, as a
result, he failed.”
“For this reason, we have decided to
implement new safety measures.”
