There are two species of dove that are often kept as pets,
the Ringneck Dove and the Diamond Dove but there are
over 300 other species of doves in the world. These are
usually called "exotic" or "wild" species and a turtle dove
is one of these.

In the Bible, Noah took two of every animal
onto the ark before God sent the floods.
When the rain stopped and Noah could see
land, he sent out a dove who came back with
an olive branch to show that there was dry
land. A dove is a symbol of peace.
