- 4. “Zelda is maybe the most dangerous person I’ve ever met… But I want her. It is a desire stronger than anything else… Maybe that knowledge is meaningless, though. Because I call” (Sheff 207). This is important because it is the first turning point for Nic. Calling Zelda led to his relapse and a dependent relationship that pushed Nic into a deeper need for drugs. “The truth is, I’ve always known, at least somewhere inside me, that Zelda was partly just a status symbol. I felt important with her… But underneath that, I can see now. Was a deep-seated feeling of worthlessness” (Sheff 298). This is important because it is when Nic realizes he cant stay sober until he removes Zelda from his life. He realizes the negative influence she had on him and that he doesn’t need her anymore. “I have tried to rip myself open and expose everything inside – accepting weaknesses and strengths – not trying to be anyone else… So my challenge is to authentic.
