TWITTER ASSIGNMENT

In David Truss’s bio on Twitter, he describes himself as a husband, parent, educator, student, a thinking,
a dreamer, and an agent of change. David Truss is from Coquitlam, BC. Canada. His posts seem to consist
of a variety of topics, ranging from his personal life, to things dealing with education. His educational
posts are mainly geared towards technology and 21st education. One of my favorite posts by him was on
November 30th, and this post was a link to a blog by the user “SStewart,” and discusses the issue of
learning and failure. This article, instead of telling us what to hear, stimulates our mind to think. Another
interesting post Is the one that leads to his “What did you Learn In School Today?” that leads to his
“Pair-A-Dimes for Your Thoughts” that discusses parent conversations. Also found below this post is a
Slideshare of his topic. This essentially discusses the questions a parent may be wondering about the
new age education and how to engage them and how to be involved. The “What did you Learn in School
Today?” topic seems to be the most common topic discussed by him as of late. I personally enjoy
reading his tweets, and find them intriguing and insightful. I love reading the blogs he posts that are
written by other people and watching the videos posted by him.
Alec Couros: In Alec Couros’s Twitter bio, it says that he is a Professor of edtech and media, a researcher
for education, a consultant, a connected educator, a keynote speaker and a open Scholar. He works at
University of Regina and is from Regina, Canada. When sifting through his tweets, it is difficult to find
tweets that deal with education due to all the posts he posts about in regards to his personal life. But,
once you do find educational related posts, they seem to be about technology or they are posts that are
geared towards making you think. For instance, the first image below is of one of his questions up for
discussion. This is probably one of my favorite posts by him because it brings the discussion up of
whether or not technology is interfering with our society. I enjoyed reading through the comments on
this post. He also has a hashtag that frequently occurs, #mri13. Overall, I didn’t really like following him
because of all the posts about non educational facts. It was really hard to find ones that were actually
somewhat important, and when going back through them, it was difficult to decipher them. I didn’t
learn as much from him, mainly because I didn’t want to spend the time reading through his
unimportant posts.

Chris Wejr
Chris Wejr is from Agassiz, BC. In his Twitter bio, he describes himself as being a k-6 principal, teacher,
learner and ports fan. He claims to be passionate about assessment, motivation, leadership, parent
engagement. He also adds in that he is a proud father to two two year old twin girls. When going
through his posts, one will find that he has a similar post to a blog posted by David Truss. This is one of
his more recent posts, but it is also a really good one. This post, like Truss’s, also discusses the topic of
winning and losing for children, except he is the one that wrote it! He concludes his post by saying he
doesn’t want his children to become successful losers, but instead, he wants them to be confident
learners, so they will take the risks and fall, and when they do, they will be strong enough to pick
theirself back up again. Another post that I found interesting to read was his tweet linking back to his
Wejr Board page, discussing the topic of punishment for misbehavior. He talks about how he tries to
avoid using punishment and rewards to deal with behavior. HE believes that punishment and rewards
will not TEACH a child to do something they are incapable of doing at the moment. That punishing or
rewarding doesn’t teach them the skills needed to learn, change, or grow. There are a lot of other posts
that I enjoyed reading by him. He discusses a wide variety of topics dealing with education and always
manages to bring about discussion by his followers, whether on his twitter feed directly or redirected to
his education blog. He also seems to consider himself a Twitter expert, because he posts advice about
how to use Twitter from time to time and how Hashtags should be used and so on. He is someone I will
continue to follow!

Katie Hellerman
Katie Hellerman is from Chicago. In her Twitter bio, she says she is a teacher and trains new teachers.
She likes exploring strategies on how to create happy teachers, students and schools. She also gives us a
glimpse into her personal life by informing us that she enjoys water sports and puppies. As per her
Twitter bio would suggest, a lot of her posts consist of advice on how to make the classroom, yourself,
and others happy in education. She posts a lot of helpful outside links, such as a teacher demonstrating
to students just how fast a picture on the internet could be circulated, thus teaching safe technology
skills. She also posted a topic called “The Biggest Game Changer In Education” I enjoyed the insight this
article offered to me. It says how the ‘real’ game changer is the change that is taking place internally, as
in, the way we think and grow and learn. The article says there is no single game changer, because with
the internal changes, also comes the acknowledgement that everyone is different, what works for one
kid, won’t work for the other. That it’s within the students and teachers, not some external factor. For
the most part, I enjoyed her posts! Most were very helpful for new teachers! I also enjoyed the pictures
she posted in various posts and tweets about puppies, justa bonus!

things we go over in class and are an expansion on things.
