- 2. What is ? A free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read brief messages.
- 3. - Messages are known as “Tweets” - intended to answer the question “What are you doing?” - Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters long. - Users have a profile page where their Tweets are displayed. Basics
- 4. More Basics... Each user has their own subscribers known as “Followers” and each user can subscribe (“Follow”) other users. Users have a home page where all of their Tweets and the Tweets of the users they Follow are displayed.
- 5. @ = Reply To/Mention When replying to a user’s post, the replier would place the @ symbol before the user name of the person they are replying to. When the @ symbol is used within the Tweet, this is a Mention. More Basics...
- 6. More Basics... RT = ReTweet This could be found at the beginning of a status and would be followed with the original author’s post. It is used when a user is re-posting (ReTweeting) another user’s status. Direct Message When two users are following each other, they have the option to send a Direct Message. There is still a 140 character limit, but these messages are completely private - more like an e-mail.
- 7. Additional Capabilities Tweeters can upload images and videos to 3rd party websites and put a link in their status that directs followers to view the media.
- 8. Continued... Users can customize their profile picture, background and color scheme. Twitter tracks Tweet content and compiles “Trending Topics” that are searchable to see what people are tweeting about. Often the # symbol is used to tag a word or phrase. This symbol makes the topic more searchable & encourages it to become a Trending Topic.
