REAL-WORLD ASSET
TOKENIZATION
Tokenization refers to the process of converting real-world
assets into digital tokens on a blockchain.
Increase liquidity, accessibility, and efficiency for assets
traditionally considered illiquid or hard to access.
EQUITY TOKENIZATION
Equity tokens represent fractional ownership in an asset, such as real estate, businesses, or
art.
Investors buy tokens that represent shares of ownership in the asset.
Benefits:
Fractional ownership: Investors can own a portion of high-value assets.
Increased liquidity: Easier to trade equity tokens on blockchain platforms.
Example:
Tokenizing a commercial real estate building, where each token represents a share of the
property.
DEBT TOKENIZATION
Debt tokens represent loans or bonds issued by an entity. These tokens entitle holders to
receive interest payments.
A borrower raises capital by issuing tokens that represent a loan, and token holders receive
returns based on interest or principal repayments.
Benefits:
Improved access to debt markets: Easier for smaller investors to participate.
Globalized lending: Debt tokens can be issued across borders using blockchain.
Example:
Tokenized mortgage or bond, where investors receive periodic payments as the borrower
repays the loan.
COMMODITY TOKENIZATION
Commodities like gold, oil, and agricultural products are tokenized, with each token
representing a certain quantity of the commodity.
A commodity (e.g., 1 ounce of gold) is backed by a digital token, enabling it to be traded on
blockchain-based platforms.
Benefits:
Ease of trading: Commodities can be traded globally without physical transportation.
Fractional ownership: Investors can buy small fractions of high-value commodities.
Example:
Gold-backed tokens, where each token represents a specific amount of physical gold.
REVENUE-GENERATING ASSET TOKENIZATION
These tokens represent a share of future revenue generated by an asset, such as real
estate, intellectual property, or other income-producing ventures.
Investors buy tokens that give them a right to a portion of the revenue or profit generated
by the asset.
Benefits:
Predictable returns: Investors gain periodic income based on the asset’s performance.
Revenue-sharing: Fractional ownership of income-producing assets.
Example:
Tokenizing rental property, where token holders receive rental income as a return.
HYBRID TOKENIZATION MODELS
Hybrid tokens combine multiple elements of ownership, such as equity and debt, or
revenue-sharing and commodity backing.
Hybrid models can represent both ownership in an asset and a right to future income or
profits, blending various tokenization types.
Benefits:
Flexibility: Investors can participate in multiple aspects of the asset.
Custom solutions: Hybrid tokens can be tailored to fit specific investor needs or asset
characteristics.
Example:
Token representing both ownership in a piece of real estate and a claim to the rental
income it generates.
Tokenization of real-world assets is transforming traditional
markets by making previously illiquid and inaccessible assets
more accessible to a global pool of investors.
