Dr. Sameer Verma teaches courses on open source software at San Francisco State University. He uses Ubuntu and other free and open source software applications to teach multimedia development and managing open source information systems. Some of the challenges in adopting open source include compatibility issues with proprietary formats and lack of support for some statistical software. However, Ubuntu provides relative advantages such as being virus-free and improving students' marketability. Dr. Verma is conducting surveys to assess student satisfaction with using open source platforms.
