THE BUSINESS UMLILO PROTECTION MANAGEMENT SERVICES cc. was registered in 1998 as a Gauteng based company which hails from the previously disadvantaged community and is entirely South African owned and managed. Our core business is in the fixed fire protection systems such as sprinkler design, fabrication, installation, maintenance and servicing. We identified an opportunity to extend our business to the portable fire extinguishing market and in 2003 formed a subsidiary company – UMLILO SYSTEMS cc – which core business is the supply, installation and servicing of hand held and wheeled fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire hydrants. In addition, we also supply various types of safety symbolic signs, fire blankets and first aid kits. - 7. TYPE OF BUSINESS Designers, installers and maintainers of fire protection systems. Registrations: Member of the Fire Protection Association of Southern Africa. Registered with the Institute of Fire Engineers (UK). SABS CIDB FFETA SAQCC Business Concept: We are unique in the sense that we are one of very few companies with a Level 3 BEE accreditation in our industry. Our managing member and former Fire Consultant, Mr Shafick Bagus, has 35 years of hands-on experience in the industry. His experience ranges from the design, fabrication, project management and installation of fire protection systems. Mrs Ayesha Bagus has over 19 years of administration and financial experience obtained in the banking sector, and has managed Umlilo for the past 16 years. Location: Our offices and workshop is located in Industria North Johannesburg, and is suitably close to all major highways and main roads. Manufacturing: We do our own fabrication and assembly of the sprinkler installations at our workshop. This has improved our position to employ more labourers and ultimately turned our business into a full turnkey operation. Market: Our client base consists of board and packaging manufacturers, railway stations, a leading university and major regional shopping centres of which your well-known chain stores are the primary tenants. Empowerment: Umlilo has a legal Black Ownership of a 100%. We are currently rated with EmpoweDex as an AA – LEVEL 3 CONTRIBUTOR Qualifying Small Enterprise with unconstrained operational capacity. Therefore, any business with Umlilo will have positive empowerment effects, and should qualify as BEE spending for BEE reporting purposes.
- 8. BUSINESS GOALS AND OBJECTIVES Objectives: We aim to provide a full turnkey service in all the disciplines of fire protection. Our main objective is to reduce the turnaround time with our hands-on approach, maximising our profitability by doing it right the first time, and keeping our expenses down to a minimum thereby passing a portion of the savings on to our clients. We are passionate about the alleviation of poverty in our country and we believe that we can make an even bigger contribution to the upliftment of the poorer communities by offer more employment opportunities to the disadvantaged. Short-term goals: We can only benefit from becoming more visible and our aim is to become more aggressive in our marketing strategy. The sales staff will play a crucial role in this area as all our past referrals came from word of mouth. To create a base core of clients and a mutually beneficial working relationship and to offer the highest standards of workmanship to our clients. Long-term goal: Our five-year plan is to place UMLILO quite comfortably amongst the big competitors through our innovation, commitment and desire to fulfil all our clients’ needs.

The founding members of Umlilo Protection Management Services saw the gap in the market place and decided to broaden their horizon thereby forming a unique service and maintenance company who can also offer the portable fire protection as an added package, hence the origin of Umlilo Systems. Between the two companies, we offer our clients a one stop shopping environment whereby all fire related needs and requirements can be addressed.
