powerful skill that helps us share ideas, influence others, and build
confidence.
• Whether you want to do well in school, get a good job, or lead a
group, being able to speak clearly and confidently makes a big
difference.
• Good communication helps us connect with others, solve problems,
and even inspire change. So , learning to overcome the fear of public
speaking is not just about one speech- it’s about improving yourself
for life.’’
Understand who you're speaking to
• Strong speaking abilities facilitate clear expression of thoughts,
making conversations and presentations more impactful. This
clarity helps to avoid misunderstandings and promote better
interactions.
• In today’s competitive job market, good speaking skills are often
predictors of career growth. Employers value effective
communicators for roles requiring presentations, and client
engagements. Those who can ideas are more likely to be
considered for leadership positions and promotions.
• Effective leaders must communication their motivate and goals
clearly, strong speaking skills enable leaders to inspire and
motivate their teams, fostering a positive work environment and
driving organizational success.
• Friendly:
• Don’t worry- everyone feels nervous before speaking sometimes.
You’re definitely not alone!’’
• Motivational:
• Feeling nervous before speaking is completely normal- even the best
speakers feel it. You’re not alone, and you’ve got this!’’
• Formal:-
• ‘’Many individuals experience nervousness before speaking in public.’’
Many of us have felt nervous before
speaking. You’re not alone.”
Fear of Judgment
• So why do we get nervous when speaking in public ?one major reason
is the fear of judgement.
• We worry about what others will think- what if I make a mistake?
What if they laugh at me ? These thoughts can make us feel anxious
and stop us from speaking up.
• But here’s the truth: most people in the audience and supportive.
They’re interested in what you have to say. Everyone makes small
errors, and it’s completely normal.
• Once we stop focusing on what others might think, and start focusing
on our message , the fear begins to fade.’’
Forgetting What to Say
• ‘’Another reason we feel nervous in the fear of forgetting what to say.
It’s happened to many of us- you stand up to speak, and suddenly
your mind goes blank. It’s scary, but it’s also very common.
• The best way to avoid this is through good preparation. Don’t try to
memorize every single word.
• Also, if you do forget something- don’t panic. Pause, take a breath,
and continue. Most of the time, the audience won’t even notice.
Staying calm is the key.’’
Nervousness and Anxiety
• These are natural feelings before speaking in public but here’s the
good news- nervousness doesn’t mean you’ll do badly. In fact, a little
nervous energy can help you stay sharp and alert.
• The trick is to manage it. Take deep breaths before you speak. Smile
Remind yourself that it’s okay to be nervous- it means you care about
doing well.
• With practice, the anxiety gets smaller and your confidence grows
stronger.’’
Facing an Unresponsive or Large Audience
• ‘’Sometimes, the audience itself can make us nervous- especially if
it’s large or unresponsive. When people don’t smile, or react, it’s easy
to think they’re bored or not interested. But that’s not true always
true. Some people just listen quietly, and that’s okay.
• Don’t let silence scare you. Focus on your message. Make eye contact,
speak clearly, and stay confident-even if the audience isn’t reacting
the way you expected.
• And if the audience is large. Just look at a few friendly faces in
different parts of the room. It helps you stay connected without
feeling overwhelmed.
Over-Reliance on Notes or Slides
• ‘’Another common issue is over-reliance on note or slides. It’s okay to
have notes-they help us stay on track. But if we keep reading word-
for-word or stare at the screen too much, we lose eye contact and
sound less natural.
• The key is use to notes as a guide, not a script. Practice enough so
that you know your main points, and just glance at your notes when
needed. This helps you speak more freely and connect better with
audience.
• The same goes for slides-keep them simple and use them to support
what you’re saying, not to replace your voice.’’
Losing connection with the audience
• ‘’one challenge many speakers face is losing connection with the
audience. When we focus too much on what we want to say or how
nervous we feel, we forget to engage with the people listening.
• To keep the connection strong, it’s important to make eye contact
with different people in the room. This shows that you care and helps
you feel more confident.
• Also, use body language like smiling, gestures, and moving a little. It
makes your talk more lively and interesting. Remember, speaking is
not just about words- it’s about sharing a message and connecting
with others.’’
Struggling to Stay on Topic
• ‘’Sometimes, when we speak, we struggle to stay on topic. Our
thoughts jump around, and we might start talking about things that
don’t really fit with our main message. This can confuse the audience
and make the speech less effective.
• To avoid this, it’s helpful to plan your speech with a clear outline- an
introduction, a few main points, and a conclusion. When you practice,
try to stick to these points.
• If you find yourself going off track, don’t worry- just gently bring
yourself back to your main idea. Keeping notes or key points can help
with this too.
Conclusion:-
• In the end, public speaking is not about being perfect- it’s about being
real. With practice, patience, and a little courage, anyone can
overcome the fear and find their voice. So next time you face a crowd,
take a deep breath and speak with confidence.
• Overcoming the fear of public speaking won’t happen overnight, but
every step you take brings you closer. So start today- speak up in class.
Share your ideas, and don’t be afraid to be heard.
