- 1. The dollhouse and chucky share similar themes. Both films are a horror genre and both films share a theme of dolls. However, the gender of the dolls are different. This challenges some media conventions as traditionally, young girls were innocent, obedient and polite. Traditionally, they are the supporting characters to men who have played the lead. However in more recent films, girls can and have been portrayed as cunning, evil and the star of the film.
- 2. Differences between our media product, The dollhouse, and a real piece of media, Chucky.
- 3. The trailer for chucky showed how the doll got into the owner’s possession. However, it did not tell the audience how it became evil and why The trailer for the dollhouse suggested that the girls who enter the house become possessed by the dolls. This gives the audience some understanding as to the story of the film. The dollhouse focused on two specific characters, Ella and Grace. The trailer for chucky presented many characters and showed their personal lives. The trailer did not show show the film in a chronological order. Conversely to The dollhouse, which showed the character’s journey chronologically. The main difference being that Ella is a girl and Chucky is a boy.
