The article examines urban observatories and the processes of knowledge translation within planning research and practice, emphasizing their role in improving governance capabilities for public policy formulation. A literature review reveals the development of these observatories, their origins, functions, and the impact of global urban agendas orchestrated by UN-Habitat. The study identifies the importance of deepening knowledge translation processes as an unexplored area of research that could positively influence urban policy-making.
