     Key Findings on MOBILE PHONES
        Pew Research Center, May 2011

       •    83% of American adults own some kind of cell phone
       •    Cell phones are useful for quick information retrieval (51%)
       •    Cell phones are an important tool in emergency situations (40%)
       •    Cell phones can help stave off boredom (42%)
       •    Cell phones can help prevent unwanted personal interactions (13%)
       •    73% of Americans use their mobile phones for text messaging and picture taking

       •    70% use their cells phone for entertainment when they were bored.
       •    64% have used their phone to quickly retrieve information they needed
       •    Half of teens send 50 or more text messages a day, or 1,500 texts a month, and one
            in three send more than 100 texts a day, or more than 3,000 texts a month.
