Editor's Notes

  • #2: Many faculty members are familiar with the educational uses of the more mainstream and traditional social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, but the landscape of social media is constantly changing. What was popular only 5 years ago might be "for old people" or might be completely inappropriate for use in a classroom today. Social media, though, is an effective, and entertaining, tool for encouraging collaboration and building 21st century skills in the classroom, if it is used effectively. This session will instruct attendees on how to keep up with with the tides of social media, provide strategies for staying abreast of social media trends, and share some educational uses for newer social media sites such as Tumblr, Pinterest, and Instagram. I’m assuming you are familiar with social media in general and some of the precautions in education (professionalism, privacy)
