The document describes a study that used the Taguchi method with a utility concept to optimize machining parameters for electrochemical machining (ECM) of Al/B4C composites. 27 experiments were conducted using a Taguchi L27 orthogonal array to machine samples with varying applied voltage, feed rate, electrolyte concentration, and reinforcement content. The responses of material removal rate, surface roughness, and radial overcut were measured. The optimum machining parameters that maximize material removal rate and minimize surface roughness and radial overcut simultaneously were determined to be an applied voltage of 16V, feed rate of 1.0 mm/min, electrolyte concentration of 30g/L, and 5wt% reinforcement content.
