Vehicle Mode Attributes Study
Date: September 24th 2014
Owner: Joseph Jancsics
Stakeholders: Kip Dondlinger, (need to find out)
Usability Research Questions
 What attributes does a user find most important for vehicle mode?
 What attributes are least desirable?
 Can we identify features that have not been considered yet?
Participant Requirements
 Familiar with concept of “Vehicle Mode”
 Some experience owning a (preferably newer) vehicle
 Preliminary conversation about car maintenance knowledge
Design of Usability Evaluation
Each participant will be presented with Attribute Cards and an Importance Scale (Fig. 1). Each card will
show a unique feature/attribute, which may or may not be suitable for “Vehicle Mode” experience. The user
will then sort, or place, the cards on the Importance Scale in one of the following categories: Must have;
Nice to have; Sounds Interesting/Cool; Don’t Care (Indifferent); Don’t need/want.
Figure 1. Attribute Importance Test (based on Kano Model Analysis
1
)
For each card placed the participant may be asked questions:
 Why did you place ‘X’ attribute there?
 How would you see ‘X’ feature being used? (probe for use case)
Wild Cards (I.e., blank) will be provided for participants to write/suggest their own features for the exercise.
Participants will be asked to ‘think-aloud’ while completing the exercise.
Required Resources
 Paper printouts (Attribute Cards & Importance Scale)
 Paper and pen to take notes
Timeline & Deliverables
 Running Study – Week of Oct. 6
th
 Preparing Findings report – Week of Oct. 20th

After adding the chart he takes a moment
to position and resize it.
After positioning the chart he decides to
add a radar.
Following a similar process to adding a
chart, Gary is able to add a radar and see
options for initial positioning.
Not yet fully satisfied with
the layout, Gary decides to
add some numbers.
By selecting “numbers” from the home-
screen the new options appear.
Using the numbers tools Gary is able to
add and position his numbers to work best
with the new layout.
