The original caves are located near the village of Montignac, in the Dordogne département. They contain some of the best-known Upper Paleolithic art. On Christmas Eve 1906, Reginald Fessenden used an Alexanderson alternator and rotary spark-gap transmitter to make the first radio audio broadcast, from Brant Rock, Massachusetts.
