VIRTUAL REALITY TECHNOLOGY
Overview
1. What is Virtual Reality?
2. History of Virtual Reality
3. Devices used in Virtual Reality
4. Application of Virtual Reality
5. Types of Virtual Reality
6. How does Virtual Reality Work?
7. Advantages and Disadvantages of Virtual Reality
8. Conclusion and Future Scope
1. What is Virtual Reality?
Virtual Reality is the use of computer technology to create a
simulated environment.
Unlike traditional user interfaces where the user views a screen,
these system immerse the user inside 3D worlds creating a full
interactive experience.
Virtual Reality is plainly speaking , seeing an imaginary world
rather than real one.

Figure(2)Structure of VR
2. History of Virtual Reality
In 1950, Morton Heiling built a sensorama.
This enabled the user watch television in
three dimension ways.
In 1965 Ivan Sutherland envisioned what he called “Ultimate
Display”
In 1988,commercial development of VR began.
In 1961 Philco Corporation engineers developed
the first HMD know as the Headsight.

3.Devices used in Virtual Reality
 Input Device and Output Device.

4. Application of Virtual Reality
Business
Virtual reality is being used in a number of
ways by the business community which
include:
Virtual tours of a business environment.
Training of new employees.
A 360 view of a product.

Education & Training

Entertainment
Movies, Video
Games, etc…
Medicine
Practice performing
surgery
Perform surgery on a
remote patient
Teach new skills in a safe,
controlled environment
5. Types of Virtual Reality
Immersive VR
Completely immerse the user’s personal viewpoint inside
the Real World.
The user has No Virtual Contact with the physical world.
Often equipped with a Head Mounted Display(HDM).
Figure(9) Immersive VR
Non-Immersive VR
 Non-Immersive Systems (like Workstations), large display but does not
surround the user.
Figure(10) Workstations
Window on World VR
 Window on World VR also known as Desktop VR.
 We can only experience the virtual objects and not it
surrounding.
 Does Not required Special Hardware.
 Low Cost, Low Performance, Less Immersion.
Virtual reality technique
The working of a VR system can be divided into following categories:
Head Tracking:
Head tracking means that when you wear a VR headset, the picture in
front of you shifts as you look up, down and side to side or angle your head.
Motion Tracking:
Motion Tracking is like using our body part in the VR.
Eye Tracking :
Laser pointers are used to capture our eyes’ movements inside the headset.
6. How does Virtual Reality Work?
7. Advantages and Disadvantages of Virtual Reality
Advantages Disadvantages
1. VR creates a realistic world.
2. It enables user to explore places.
3. Through VR user can
experiment with an artificial
environment.
4. VR make the education more
easily and comfort.
1. The equipment used in VR are
very expensive.
2. It consists of complex
technology.
3. In VR environment we can
move by our own like in the real
world.
8. Conclusion and Future Scope
Conclusion
1. VR is still far from being perfected.
2. It has many uses and has been around for quite a few years.
3. Becoming more innovation in its uses.
4. Cost saving once obtained, but very costly to get.
Future Scope
1. VR is a growing industry.
2. PC and specialized hardware are getting better, faster and
cheaper because of development in VR.
3. May be 3D user interfaces will replace the windows based
ones?
4. Huge demand for VRML programmers in near future.
5. Revolution in gaming industries.
