This document summarizes the results of an evaluation of the Voluntary Self-Exclusion program for casinos and racing entertainment centres in Alberta, Canada. The evaluation included surveys of program clients and other jurisdictions, as well as focus groups and interviews. Key findings identified best practices, such as using self-exclusion as a gateway to treatment and offering variable enrollment lengths. Gaps in the Alberta program were also identified, such as a lack of lifetime enrollment, mandatory referrals to treatment, and technological tools for detection. Based on the evaluation, 22 recommendations were developed to improve administration, promotion, training, enrollment processes, and other aspects of the program.
