It is perhaps because we have not learned to recognize and respect existing order in unfamiliar forms that we are frightened of social change, unwilling to support and work with the forms that peoples find for themselves. Young people must be prepared to feel like newly arrived immigrants through much of their lives. They (we all) need to know how to observe, how to learn, how to adapt, how to draw on other people’s expertise.
