Over 750 educational institutions from over 40 countries use Second Life for educational purposes, representing nearly 50% of institutions outside the United States. The number of education-focused regions in Second Life grew by 16% in 2009 and have 50% more sessions per resident than average. Major educational organizations from around the world such as Waseda University, Utrecht University, and Hong Kong Polytechnic University have a presence in Second Life.
