• Methanogens are chemoautotroph
• Methanogens use a number of different ways to produce
methane:
1.Using ethanoate (acetate) that may be derived from the
decomposition of cellulose:
CH₃COO⁺ + Hˉ = CH₄+ CO₂+36 kJ molˉˡ
2. Using hydrogen and carbon dioxide produced by the
decomposers:
4 H₂+ CO₂ = CH₄+ 2H₂O +130.4 kJ molˉˡ
 Can double its population within 06-08 hrs
 Decomposes matter into liquid and gases
 Can be kept for several months at ambient temperature in bio-
digester tank
 Can withstand sub-zero temperatures & up to 60 degree
centigrade
 Inside processing is not affected by cold atmosphere, as
anaerobic process is exothermic in nature, heat will be
available inside the chamber due to chemical processes.

BIO-STP
Sewage treatment is the process of :
removing contaminants from wastewater, primarily from household sewage. It
includes physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove these
contaminants and produce environmentally safe treated wastewater.
The technology has major three components:
» A-Low temp. active inoculum
» B- Bio Digester
» C- Reed Bed
BIO-STP technology designs and constructs highly effective and simple to
operate systems for treating a wide range of contaminant chemicals including
ammonia, BOD, COD, suspended solids, organic chemicals, chlorinated organic
chemicals, industrial solvents, and hydocarbons.
BIO-STPs consume no energy, require no chemicals, have no moving
parts, and are carbon neutral.
BIO-STP
» 100% maintenance free, continuous Biological process.
» Complete elimination of pathogens.
» Economically viable.
» No dependence on the limited and costly conventional
energy sources.
» Can be installed and made operational in least Time-
duration.
» Inoculums charging is only once during the entire life of
Bio-STP.

WHAT IS BIO-GAS
» Bio-gas typically refers to a mixture of Gases produced
by the break down of Organic matter in the absence of
Oxygen.
ORGANIC MATTER = CH₄+ CO₂+ H₂O + H₂S etc.
( Breaks in absence of O₂)
» Raw Materials= Agricultural waste, Sewage(cattle
dung, poultry waste, human waste), Municipal
waste, Plant material, Green waste or food waste

Background
» India has the Largest cattle
population in the world ~ 61.7 crores.
» Majority of this cattle population is
based in Rural India, which generates
a huge amount of green waste.

cow dung is not being used
efficiently.
» However, the potential to generate
Green energy from this waste is
huge.
VISION
» CbS is a Green Energy Company.
» The Rural Development Program is an
initiative by CbS for the sustainable
development of Rural India and the
empowerment of its village dwelling
population.
» The first phase focuses on creating a
sustainable source of clean energy
using green waste, which is available
in abundance in Rural India

Earth Worms used in Vermi-composting
Introduction
 Vermicomposting is a technology of composting various
forms of biodegradable wastes with the help of
earthworms.
This compost is perfectly balanced and good in plants
nutrients.
Vermi Reactor-Vermicompost
» Vermicomposting : It is the usage of Earth worms to convert
vegetable waste to a 100% natural plant fertilizer.
» Vermi reactors: These are biological reactors where
earthworm activities take place.

Method of Production
Vermicompost can be produced by two methods :
Pit Method
Windrows Method
VERMI REACTOR MACHINE
Composition of Vermicompost
ITEM PERCENTAGE (%)
Humidity 59
Organic dry matter 50.81
N Content in dry matter 2.09
P Content in dry matter 0.89
K Content in dry matter 1.74
pH 7.66
Nutrient profile of vermicompost
Vermicompost contains :
1.6% Nitrogen;
0.7% Phosphorus;
0.8% Potash;
0.5% Calcium;
0.2% Magnesium;
175 ppm Iron;
96.5 ppm Manganese;
24.5 ppm Zinc
15.5 C:N ratio.
COMPARED TO ORDINARY SOIL
VERMI COMPOST HAS
 5 times more Nitrogen
 7 times more Phosphorous
 1.5 times more Calcium
 11 times more Potassium
 3 times more Magnesium
Benefits
» Organic: Compost produced by earthworms is 100%
organic.
» More Nutritious:Nutrients in earthworm compost are
very easily absorbed by the roots of plants.
» Micro Organisms: Compost enriched with bacteria
and microbes, help plants to become more disease
resistant.
» Healthier Plants: Compost make the plants healthier.
» Better Plant Growth
» Better Water Retention
» Slow Nutrition Release: Long exposure to nutrients
Vermi compost
Chemical fertilizers
» Compost contains macro and micronutrients
often absent in Chemical fertilizers.
» Compost releases nutrients slowly—over
months or years, unlike Chemical fertilizers
» Compost enriched soil retains fertilizers better.
Less fertilizer runs off to pollute waterways.
Continuous Flow Through
Vermi Reactor
» Vermi Reactor is the especially designed device to
develop the vermicast/vermicompost.
» The device provide the adequate provision for
earthworms to live, feed and breed.
» Designed and approved by DRDO (Defence Research &
Development Centre)-Ministry of Defence
Actual Photograph of a Vermi-Reactor
Why require Vermireactor
» It is difficult for earthworms to survive in open
areas, thus continuous flow through vermi reactor
provides the suitable area for them to survive and
produce vermicast.
» Provide safeguard against predators and insects
to prevent harm to the earthworms.
» Provide adequate ph, temperature, moisture and
other conditions perfect for earthworms.
» Allows the simultaneous addition of the organic
waste at the same time harvesting the vermicasts.
» Vermireactor makes the digestion procedure
faster.
When every house can have
» A washing machine
» TV
» Fridge
» AC
» Dustbin
Then why not Waste Processor

  • 67. COMPARED TO ORDINARY SOIL VERMI COMPOST HAS  5 times more Nitrogen  7 times more Phosphorous  1.5 times more Calcium  11 times more Potassium  3 times more Magnesium
  • 68. Benefits » Organic: Compost produced by earthworms is 100% organic. » More Nutritious:Nutrients in earthworm compost are very easily absorbed by the roots of plants. » Micro Organisms: Compost enriched with bacteria and microbes, help plants to become more disease resistant. » Healthier Plants: Compost make the plants healthier. » Better Plant Growth » Better Water Retention » Slow Nutrition Release: Long exposure to nutrients
  • 69. Vermi compost Chemical fertilizers » Compost contains macro and micronutrients often absent in Chemical fertilizers. » Compost releases nutrients slowly—over months or years, unlike Chemical fertilizers » Compost enriched soil retains fertilizers better. Less fertilizer runs off to pollute waterways.
  • 70. Continuous Flow Through Vermi Reactor » Vermi Reactor is the especially designed device to develop the vermicast/vermicompost. » The device provide the adequate provision for earthworms to live, feed and breed. » Designed and approved by DRDO (Defence Research & Development Centre)-Ministry of Defence Actual Photograph of a Vermi-Reactor
  • 71. Why require Vermireactor » It is difficult for earthworms to survive in open areas, thus continuous flow through vermi reactor provides the suitable area for them to survive and produce vermicast. » Provide safeguard against predators and insects to prevent harm to the earthworms. » Provide adequate ph, temperature, moisture and other conditions perfect for earthworms. » Allows the simultaneous addition of the organic waste at the same time harvesting the vermicasts. » Vermireactor makes the digestion procedure faster.
