Politically, there was distrust in government due to Watergate and changes in presidency. Economically, it was a difficult time with stagflation, recessions, and rising unemployment. Socially, there was an increase in single-parent households and personal savings. Technologically, Walmart adopted barcode scanners and a satellite network for communication.
