Web 1.0 was the first generation of the world wide web and allowed for one-way broadcasting of information from website owners. Web 2.0 focused on enabling collaboration and information sharing between users online through things like social media platforms and wikis. Web 3.0 extended on these social aspects and aimed to provide location-aware and moment-relevant experiences across multiple devices. Web 4.0, still in development, envisions a symbiotic relationship between humans and machines through technologies like ambient intelligence and mind-controlled interfaces. Each generation brought new interactive capabilities to the internet and how people engage with online information.
Web 1.0 2.0-3.0-4.0 Overview
- 1. Web 1.O or Journalism 1.O Definition: It is 1 st generation of the WWW. Web 1.O is one-way broadcasting, meaning only the owner of the site can publish information. It was the content web. Early it was used for Not-for-Profit information age. A system of internet servers that support specially formatted document by using HTML. WWW is not synonymous with internet.
- 2. Difference Between the Internet and WWW The Internet is a massive network of networks, a networking infrastructure. While WWW or simply Web, is a way of accessing information over the medium of the internet. Internet connects millions of computers together globally. WWW is an information sharing model that is built on top of the Internet ex- browsers (IE or Firefox)
- 3. WEB 2.O or Journalism 2.O It is 2 nd generation of the www that focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. It signifies a conversation between the original author of the content and all those who can comment or participate. It refers to the transition form static HTML web pages to a more dynamic HTML or dynamic web. It is also regarded as the social web. Ex- Wikipedia, facebook, youtube, all online affairs of government as well as private entity.
- 4. Web 3.O or Journalism 3.O Web 3.0 is an extension of Web 2.0. It is the location-aware and moment-relevant web. Combined with the social web 2.0 services, web 3.0 provides the Internet user with the opportunity to engage with people all over the world on a variety of devices. Ex-Twitter, 3G Cellular, Wifi networks, iPhone, iTV (gives local TV listings), OneTap-local movie listings and trailers, LocalPick or LocalEats (locate nearby restaurants with user reviews)
- 5. Web 4.O or Journalism 4.O It is also known as the “symbiotic web” Human and machine can interact in symbiosis like mind controlled interfaces. With the help of web 4.0 people also talk about ambient intelligence, WebOS, artificial intelligence. It is still an underground idea in progress.
- 6. Development Year Web 1.O: In 1991. Web 2.O: In 1999 by Tim Berners-Lee’s and term Web 2.0 coined by DiNucci. Web 3.O: Coined by John Markoff of the New York Times in 2006. Web 4.O: Still in developing stage approximately we can consider it’s development in 2009-2010.
