This document discusses how web-based catalogues and search functions are impacting libraries. It provides an overview of trends like Web 2.0 that have led to libraries making their resources available remotely through web-based online public access catalogs (OPACs). The document also gives specific details about the catalogue and resources available at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) library, which uses the ALEPH system and is a member of OCLC and CALICO agreements to provide access to holdings. It concludes that libraries must find ways to better meet the changing information needs of users.
