Step 2
•

Once zoomed to a particular location, click the layers button and select the Capital Projects layer.
This will show you the location of all projects under development in Fairfax County. If a project is
shown at the location you were going to enter a request, you can click on the project for more
information and to find out if your idea is already being developed.

Additional Fields
•

•

•

•
•
•

Street: The street where you are requesting the improvement. In our example, if the
stop sign request is on Point Pleasant Drive, that street name would go here. In the
case you were requesting a sidewalk or trail (walkway), this field would be the street
where you are requesting the walkway.
From_Street: The second street that intersects with the “Street” field. In this example,
it would be Majestic Lane. In the case you were requesting a sidewalk or trail
(walkway), this field would be the beginning of the walkway.
To_Street: In our example, you could leave this field blank or enter N/A for not
applicable. In the case you were requesting a sidewalk or trail (walkway), this field
would be the end limit of the walkway.
Reason: This field allows you to explain why you are requesting the improvement.
Date: This allows FCDOT to keep track of when each request was submitted. You
can either type in the date in mm/dd/yyyy format or click the button on the right of the
field and a calendar will appear.
Your_Name: Enter your first and last name, if you want to.
Phone_Number: Enter your phone number, if you want to.
Email: Enter your e-mail address, if you want to.

Step 8
•
•

Once you have completed filling out the information, simply click anywhere else on the map and
your request will be saved.
At this point you can choose to submit an additional request or close out of the web map. Your
information has been saved and Fairfax County DOT will be able to add your request to the
growing list of projects that are submitted by residents.

Information
•

It is important to note that while your request is now recorded, it is not automatically funded and
at the top of the list. The Board of Supervisors recently approved a list of transportation
improvement projects in Fairfax County that is the result of House Bill 2313, the Virginia
transportation funding bill that was approved in 2013.

•

Fairfax County DOT will always explore additional funding options to continue its effort to improve
pedestrian accessibility, mobility, and safety throughout the county.

Thank you for your input!
