Native American Lifestyle Webquest
Introduction:
You awake to a cool crisp autumn morning, the sun rises over the horizon. The sound of
birds and small woodland creatures permeate the air. The smell of the earth and the
long burnt out fire travel on the wind. Realization sets in that you are no longer at home
in your bed, you have been transported to where you don’t know, to when you don’t
know. How could this be, how did this happen? As you open the flap of what appears to
be a tepee and emerge into the sunlight, you realize, you are in a Native American
village in the Plains of North America, and you think to yourself, “ Now this could be
interesting”
Task:
Your task is to fully imagine a day in the life as a Native American. You may write your
own story as either an observer or as a Native American yourself. Your story may
contain fictitious names and scenarios but you must include detailed information about
the homes, the food, the culture, the clothing, and way of life (hunting, gathering, using
nature to live). You will also need to produce a visual aid to accompany your story. You
may create an illustration or create an object that represents or is relevant to your story.
You will be evaluated on the accuracy of the details in your story. I want you to show
that you truly understand the material you are given in your story.
Process:
First, you will decide if you would like to write your story as an observer or as an active
participant.
Second, you will need to do your research and make an outline or make your notes
using the following links
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plains_Indians
http://firstpeoplesofcanada.com/fp_groups/fp_plains1.html
Third, put together your notes and write your story.
Fourth, complete your illustration or create your object to accompany your story.
