Hounds
vs.
2013 Results: The Hounds swept the series 2-0.
All-Time Series: The Lizards lead the series 3-2.
Last Meeting: These teams first met in New York during Week 8, when the Lizards came away with a 14-12 victory.
The teams traded runs to open the game, before Matt Danowski tallied a highlight-reel worthy behind-the-back
goal to give the Hounds a 7-6 advantage going into the break. But a 2-point goal from Max Seibald in third quarter
(his second of the night) turned out to be a momentum changer in the game, and the Lizards went into the final 15
minutes with a one-goal advantage. They then proceeded to score four straight goals to open the fourth quarter
and build a 14-9 lead with 6:37 remaining in the game. The Hounds wouldn’t go down without a fight, though,
tallying the game’s final three goals to account for the 14-12 final. The Lizards’ two 2-point goals proved to be the
biggest difference makers, as Adam Ghitelman finished the night with 13 saves on 25 shots, while Drew Adams
totaled 15 saves on 27 shots. Faceoffs also went slightly in favor of the Lizards (15-28), as did groundballs (26 to
22). Both teams were unsuccessful on their power-play opportunities.
HOUNDS
After going toe-to-toe with the first-place Rattlers for
45 minutes last week, the Hounds ran out of gas in
the fourth quarter and saw their playoff hopes
dashed with a 13-9 loss. It marked the team’s third-
straight loss, the longest streak this season. The
Rattlers opened with a 4-3 lead after one quarter, but
the Hounds came back to tie the game 6-6 at the half,
thanks to two goals each from Mike Sawyer and Jake
Tripucka. The teams traded four sets of goals
between the third and early fourth quarter, leaving
the Rattlers with just a 10-9 advantage and over 12
minutes to play. But John Galloway made four fourth-
quarter saves (he finished with 10 saves on 19 shots)
as the offense rattled off another three goals –
including two from veteran Kevin Leveille – to
account for the 13-9 final.
Players To Watch
John Haus (M) – He does whatever needs to be done
to help the team, whether scoring or grinding out
groundballs.
Pat Laconi (M) – The rookie doesn’t always show up
on the stat sheet but makes his presence felt when he
is on the field.
Matt Danowski (A) – The team feeds off his energy
and the offense is at its best when Dino is hot.
LIZARDS
Despite a one-goal loss to the Bayhawks last week,
the Lizards still punched their ticket to the MLL
postseason thanks to losses by the Hounds, Outlaws
and Cannons. Behind two goals from Ned Crotty, the
Lizards carried a 6-3 lead on the Bayhawks at
halftime. Both teams came out shooting in the third,
tallying five goals apiece – including the third of the
night from Crotty – to keep the Lizards in front by
three heading into the final quarter. But the
Bayhawks stole all momentum, holding the Lizards
scoreless for the entire quarter while tallying three
goals, including a crucial, game-winning 2-pointer
from Jesse Bernhardt. Bayhawks goalie Tyler Fiorito
finished with 15 saves (two in the fourth quarter) on
26 shots, while the Lizards’ Drew Adams registered 14
saves on 25 shots. The game marked the Lizards’ first
home loss this season.
Players To Watch
Rob Pannell (A) – Leads the Lizards with 28 goals, six
of which were scored against the Hounds in Week 8.
Greg Gurenlian (FO) – He has won a league-high
60.2% of faceoffs.
Max Seibald (M) – His only two 2-point goals this
season were tallied against the Hounds in Week 8.

NOTEWORTHY – August 1, 2014
BURN CANCER WEEK: MLL players during this week’s games will wear HEADstrong lime green shoelaces, MLL
coaches will sport lime green shirts and select players will wear Warrior Lacrosse equipment specifically
designed with HEADstrong elements, in support of the HEADstrong Foundation and to raise awareness for all
forms of blood cancers.
PLAYING FOR PRIDE: With a loss to the Rattlers in Week 12, the Hounds were officially eliminated from the
MLL playoff race. The Chesapeake Bayhawks are the only other team to have been eliminated going into Week
13. The Hounds and Bayhawks met in the 2013 MLL Championship.
PUSH FOR THE POSTSEASON: The Rattlers have clinched a playoff spot, but can clinch home field with a win
OR with a loss to the Machine AND a Lizards OR Outlaws loss….The Outlaws have clinched a playoff spot but
can clinch home field with a wind AND a Lizards loss….The Lizards have clinched a playoff spot and can finish
no worse than third place with a win OR with a loss to the Hounds and a Machine loss….The Machine, Cannons
and Launch cannot clinch a playoff spot this week, but the Cannons are eliminated with a loss AND a Machine
win, while the Launch are eliminated with a loss AND a Machine win.
HOME SWEET HOME: All four of the Hounds’ wins this season have come from home games. They remain the
only MLL team that has yet to win a game on the road.
HISTORY LESSON: This week’s matchup features the top two all-time scorers in NCAA men’s Division I
lacrosse. Matt Danowski held the record from 2008-13, with 353 career points at Duke. The Lizards’ Rob
Pannell broke that mark in 2013, graduating Cornell with a total of 354 points.
DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Lizards have allowed an MLL-high six 2-point goals (tied with the Launch and
Cannons), while the Hounds have tallied the second-most 2-point goals in the league with seven. The Outlaws
lead the league with eight 2-pointers.
POWER STRUGGLE: The Hounds’ league-low 20.59% power play this week will be up against the Lizards’ MLL-
best 83.87% penalty kill.
WE’RE GOING STREAKING: Ryan Young enters Week 13 riding a 27-game streak of recording at least one
point, dating back to Aug. 11, 2012 (including the postseason)….Rookie Justin Ward has now tallied multiple
points in each game since his MLL debut on May 30, for a total of eight-straight games. His lowest output was
two points (1g, 1a) against the Lizards in Week 8.
THE CENTENNIAL CLUB: With four groundballs registered in last week’s game, Brett Schmidt has now reached
100 on his career….Matt Danowski is five assists away from 100 on his career….Ryan Young (67g, 25a) is eight
points away from 100 on his career.

  • 3. Hounds vs. 2013 Results: The Hounds swept the series 2-0. All-Time Series: The Lizards lead the series 3-2. Last Meeting: These teams first met in New York during Week 8, when the Lizards came away with a 14-12 victory. The teams traded runs to open the game, before Matt Danowski tallied a highlight-reel worthy behind-the-back goal to give the Hounds a 7-6 advantage going into the break. But a 2-point goal from Max Seibald in third quarter (his second of the night) turned out to be a momentum changer in the game, and the Lizards went into the final 15 minutes with a one-goal advantage. They then proceeded to score four straight goals to open the fourth quarter and build a 14-9 lead with 6:37 remaining in the game. The Hounds wouldn’t go down without a fight, though, tallying the game’s final three goals to account for the 14-12 final. The Lizards’ two 2-point goals proved to be the biggest difference makers, as Adam Ghitelman finished the night with 13 saves on 25 shots, while Drew Adams totaled 15 saves on 27 shots. Faceoffs also went slightly in favor of the Lizards (15-28), as did groundballs (26 to 22). Both teams were unsuccessful on their power-play opportunities. HOUNDS After going toe-to-toe with the first-place Rattlers for 45 minutes last week, the Hounds ran out of gas in the fourth quarter and saw their playoff hopes dashed with a 13-9 loss. It marked the team’s third- straight loss, the longest streak this season. The Rattlers opened with a 4-3 lead after one quarter, but the Hounds came back to tie the game 6-6 at the half, thanks to two goals each from Mike Sawyer and Jake Tripucka. The teams traded four sets of goals between the third and early fourth quarter, leaving the Rattlers with just a 10-9 advantage and over 12 minutes to play. But John Galloway made four fourth- quarter saves (he finished with 10 saves on 19 shots) as the offense rattled off another three goals – including two from veteran Kevin Leveille – to account for the 13-9 final. Players To Watch John Haus (M) – He does whatever needs to be done to help the team, whether scoring or grinding out groundballs. Pat Laconi (M) – The rookie doesn’t always show up on the stat sheet but makes his presence felt when he is on the field. Matt Danowski (A) – The team feeds off his energy and the offense is at its best when Dino is hot. LIZARDS Despite a one-goal loss to the Bayhawks last week, the Lizards still punched their ticket to the MLL postseason thanks to losses by the Hounds, Outlaws and Cannons. Behind two goals from Ned Crotty, the Lizards carried a 6-3 lead on the Bayhawks at halftime. Both teams came out shooting in the third, tallying five goals apiece – including the third of the night from Crotty – to keep the Lizards in front by three heading into the final quarter. But the Bayhawks stole all momentum, holding the Lizards scoreless for the entire quarter while tallying three goals, including a crucial, game-winning 2-pointer from Jesse Bernhardt. Bayhawks goalie Tyler Fiorito finished with 15 saves (two in the fourth quarter) on 26 shots, while the Lizards’ Drew Adams registered 14 saves on 25 shots. The game marked the Lizards’ first home loss this season. Players To Watch Rob Pannell (A) – Leads the Lizards with 28 goals, six of which were scored against the Hounds in Week 8. Greg Gurenlian (FO) – He has won a league-high 60.2% of faceoffs. Max Seibald (M) – His only two 2-point goals this season were tallied against the Hounds in Week 8.
