• Personal values are developed as a result of
experience and may change as experiences
change or you meet different people
• Our values are influenced by: family, friends,

choices we make in life. See moral values
questionnaire
• Even though our values and beliefs are right
for us they may not be right for others
• Arguments occur as a result of people having
different beliefs & values

Activity: Respecting differences
Handout on case scenarios – TAFE WEBSITE
Decide which workers are respecting the
differences of their clients and which are not.
For those that are not, come up with an
alternative way that they could show respect
for their client.
Separating the personal from the
professional
• It is crucial to keep your personal values
separate from your work. This means that we
cannot enforce our values and beliefs on
others or tell them what to do because we
think it is right
