Overview OF ACTIVITY Use of Inspiration (or Kidspiration): Concept Mapping  tools  G raphically/visually organizes  thoughts and ideas Includes audio, dictionary, highlighter features Why? When have you used Concept Maps? What was useful about the Map?
WHAT ARE CONCEPT MAPS? Concept Maps: Connecting past and present knowledge They represent the connections between concepts (Shapes, Patterns, Natural World, Man-made world) Precise and verifiable  Uses hierarchical structures for concepts  Cross links between ideas (red+yellow=orange) How do teachers use Concept Maps? Design their curriculum overview Evaluate students learning of concepts
HOW TO MAKE A CONCEPT MAP 6  Easy Steps to Concept Mapping: Concept  – what’s the main idea? Generating sub concepts  – related to the central theme Ranking your concepts  -sorting and rating their relevance Finding the links –  how do concepts cross-link? Representation of statements  – Add aids: images, diagrams, examples? Structuring Map  – How will you organize these, linear? 2 sided persuasive argument? Cyclical process?

ICW #4 – Part 1  STEP 1 Work in groups (max 2) – someone in your subject area . STEP 2 For Social studies, English/Language Arts, Science subject   area, you can use the highlighted standards in the following   links: Academic Standards for Social Studies Academic Standards for English/Language Arts Academic Standards for Science For other subject area, here are some  suggested standards .  STEP 3 You can review the  Inspiration examples  to gather new ideas, but don't copy these ideas .
