Wems Agro Companies Limited presented a vision for rice growing in Ondo State to the Executive Governor. The company proposed developing a 2500 acre rice farm and visitors center called the Ondo State Centre of Sustainability and Excellence in Akotogbo that would create 2500 jobs, pay over 1.17 billion naira in wages over 5 years, and generate 2.48 billion naira for the local economy. They requested approval of a Certificate of Occupancy by year-end to begin land clearing in January 2015 and finish planting by March 2015 to realize their timeline.
