 Throughout our course it has been
highlighted just how valuable audience
feedback is when creating media in a
specific, niche genre. Therefore we have
used many techniques throughout our
course to get as much feedback as we
can to ensure we are reaching our target
audience perfectly.
Questionnaire
When we first started our course, we had a chat in our groups about what we
may want to do and what genre we would like to do.
To ensure we would have enough people in our target audience we decided to
create a questionnaire about all genres and music videos.
This questionnaire highlighted how differing genres have differing demographics
who are their target audience. From this questionnaire we also gathered
information on how people view music videos and what they want to get out of
them. Overall this task acted as an insurance as we found out that our initial
idea would have a strong fan base and we would know exactly what to include in
our video to achieve a successful media product.
What have you learned from your audience feedback
Original focus group
This audience feedback task allowed us to sit down with our
target audience and speak them through our entire plot line and
plans for our artist. This again allowed to develop our
understanding on exactly what our target audience want to see
in an indie genre music video. This task also allowed our target
audience to give their own ideas and opinions on what we can
do to our video and artists; this gives them a creative voice
when producing our video which takes us even further when
creating our video!
This task highlighted how we can alter our storyline to appeal to
our entire audience and also see how to style and present our
band.

Band name discussion
I personally found not all audience
feedback had to be formally done. I
enjoyed talking to my target audience
about small elements of the production.
We spoke to our target audience casually
about what band names they would prefer
and this gave us a quick insight to what
they would like so we can quickly add and
change elements.
Social media
I decided I would set up a facebook page;
this allowed for my band to interact and
chat to their fans/target audience. This
allowed me to quickly contact our
audience to ask for their opinion on colour
schemes, filters and imagery. This
therefore allows the audience to feel
involved with the band and feel a part of
the production.

Survey monkey
I decided to set up a survey monkey
halfway through our production process!
This allowed me to gather fast results from
our target audience through social media.
This allowed me to set specific questions
which we wanted answered in detail/on a
scale. We managed to gather many details
and responses which we allowed to alter
and add to our music video and ancillary
products.

Final focus group
This audience feedback task allowed us to sit down with
our target audience and show then our final music video
to gather their opinions on it. This again allowed to
develop our understanding on exactly what our target
audience liked and disliked about our video and also
allowed us to see if they understood our sub-meanings
throughout. This task showed us how we have
successfully appealed to our audience and that they was
very pleased and happy with what we created. One
member did suggest that we add more lip sync shots, yet
we put them in a specific order to keep a continuity
throughout. We would of added more if it was a majority
vote, yet where it was the minority we decided it would be
better to continue with what we already created.

Video viewings
During the post production we would
always ask a few members of our target
audience to come and view what we’ve
editing so far to gather their opinion on it.
This ensured that we was always on the
right track when it came to accessing and
appealing to our target audience.
What did I learn from my
audiene feedback?
Over the course of pre and post production my audience
taught my group and I very important aspects of what our
target audience would prefer to see in an indie music video.
For example, I learnt that indie is one of the most popular
genres for teenagers, both male and female, therefore I had
to ensure that our production would suit both genders by not
being gender specific. This involved us using a mixed gender
band. After looking at bands such as paramore I noticed they
had such a wide fan base as the boys looked up to members
such as Jeremy Davis, whereas the girls were able to look up
to Hayley Williams. We also decided it would be important to
use a song which wasn’t gender specific, stars such as ‘If I
were a boy’ & ‘Celila’ are very deterministic to a gender which
can make them unrelatable to the opposing sex, which
reduces the accessibility to their target audience.
