What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing
the product
When constructing our media product we had to consider different technologies to use
when we were in the process of filming and everything beyond this.
In pre-production we had to use the internet, from this we did our necessary audience and
film research to bring the idea together, we also implemented the internet as a means of
making our questionnaire for survey monkey., we also used social media sites such as
Facebook to share make people aware of the film and get them to fill in our questionnaire
which had some responses. As well as the focus groups which were recorded using the
cameras. In media we had access to the Macs this allowed us to make and edit our blogs to
make them personal to ourselves by changing the colours or inserting pictures onto our
blogs, we also personalised our blogs by having the date and times of all our posts on the
blogs so people know when files were posted, the blog was even categorised so it made it
easier for people to find our work such as all the pre-production tasks are found in the
Research and Planning tab on my blog. This includes all the work we had done leading up to
filming our product such as, script writing, storyboards, audience and location research,
casting this shows what we had to consider for the film and how and where it was going to
work on camera and this was all shown on our blogs
We also had to consider uploading our work to our own blogs which we had personalised
ourselves on this all the work we produced was uploaded onto the blog, in any presentable
form such as a slideshare, Prezi, or emaze. This is where we distributed our work and the
footage online for the world to see. We also distributed online using sites like YouTube, here
we uploaded our footage from IMovie onto YouTube this made it possible to share our
recordings on our blogs and social media.
In the production stage of our film we went to the locations to film here we used the
telephone to speak to people at these locations and confirm if it was possible to film. When
we arrived we would use the cameras to film all the footage and get as many different shots
as we would need to make it better, while this happened some on set photography was
achieved to clearly show the audience what was happening on the day we were together.
While we were filming my phone was also used as part of the production sequence we used
this as an opportunity to take more photography for the production and get extra
information for the audience. We also had to think about sound and for our production the
sound we had on days of recoding was useful as the wind would show it is a cold day and
this would show a sad scene and make it clear to the audience it is a sad scene, even in
some parts of the production there are sounds of cars passing at a distance to make it sound
like a rural area and people will know it is a populated area and this helped make the
production more realistic. Again using our blogs we included written up progress on the film
and uploaded it to our blogs using the school computers or the Macs this would include
information on the shoot, challenges we faced and how we looked to resolve it. As well as
this in our production the audio wasn’t as clear so we had to re-record the audio back at
school to make sure it was clear enough for the audience to understand as the wind on the
day of the shoot created too much ambient sound.
In the post production stage we had recorded all the footage that we needed to. This meant
that we had access to the Macs again. With this we used IMovie and we imported all the
footage and audio. From this I split the audio from the re-recordings and fitted it with the
original footage. When this was done the footage had to be trimmed down, this meant I
would be getting rid of any long pauses in audio this way the footage and the audio would
flow a lot better and it would look more natural with the audio that was re-recorded. On the
day of the shoot not every shot was filmed in order and when it came to piecing the footage
together some shots where moved around to stay in order or shots were split and moved
around so there were no long shots as it would make it better with loads of short shots. In
this we also added the re-recorded audio so it was more clear to the audience what was
being said. We also looked at non copyrighted songs to put on our production to make it
more interesting and get the characters personalities across and hit the audience when they
were on camera. For Sam there was intense music with harsh strings to make the character
seem more disturbing, and soft music is played in the start and every time Vanessa is on
camera to show to the audience it is meant to be a sad scene and that she is an innocent girl
who is really sad because her parents have died. We even included audio of bird sounds and
this would make the scene seem innocent and help reflect on Vanessa.
We also included transitions such as fade to blacks to introduce and end the scene this is
good because it helps show it is a dark scene and with the filmtitle at the end the fade to
black helps the titles stand out. We also used a western filter on the whole sequence this
helped add light to the scene this would in turn make Vanessa appear more innocent and
with the added shot of the sun would help show how lonely she is because she is the only
object in this shot that is in focus and the western filter helps Sam stand out and look more
disturbing and in power to the audience. Text was also used in our production this was to
say who had which roles such as director and all kinds of producers, and this also included
who played which character and with the black background at the end the white text stands
out and makes the text stick in their mind and make them watch the rest of the film.
In exhibition this is where we released it for the public to look at, after we had finished our
film we uploaded it to YouTube after converting it into an MP4 file and this would mean that
people can see the video and more people will know about it. After we uploaded it to
YouTube I shared it to Facebook for more people to look at and this means that more
people will be aware of the filmand want to know more.
