The Dalai Lama overlooked an old yellow warehouse covered in street art known as 5Pointz in New York City. 5Pointz was a gathering place for street artists where they created works featuring characters like Batman, Wolverine, and internet memes alongside more abstract pieces. A Latina woman smoked beneath nearby train tracks as trees with desperate faces watched passersby. The mural characters, even vile creatures, coexisted at 5Pointz. Mr. Blob, a half man/half slot machine who dispensed spray cans, smiled as he gave out his last four cans, unaware they would be the last as the artwork was soon whitewashed under cover of night, silencing the artists.

They all coexisted here: Batman, Wolverine, abstract musings, and internet memes. PS1 y u no love me? A somber Latina dragged a cigarette beneath the shadow of the rail tracks. Her friend was scared. The trees were alive, and their faces peered at the passing people in desperation. Zombies, cowboys, Colossus, a lovely woman called Amy. Even the vilest creatures all had their place here. The saddest denizen was Mr. Blob. Half man, half slot-machine. He dispensed spray cans as prizes But he didn’t know Those four cans would be his last, Otherwise he wouldn’t have smiled. Faces of countless creations the names and voices of a thousand artists silenced. Covered quickly, whitewashed under the blanket of night.
