Why I Moved
The standard of living lowered like
rust dripping from an aged nail.
I left my beloved home of 22 years.
Why I Moved
• In every season
much energy &
expense was
given to
– Paint
– Turf
– Shrubs
– Decorating in the
traditional Charleston
style
Yet, I grew tired of these views from my
front windows.
Yet, I grew tired of this view from my
front windows . . .
• It shall be the responsibility of each Owner to
prevent any unclean, or unsightly, or unkempt
conditions from existing within his or her Lot
including any … outside areas appurtenant
thereto.
• DECLARATION OF COVENANTS,
CONDITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
… the view of these windows …
… & this view from my patio & deck.
Curb appeal greatly diminished. My hope
for a bright future became a dying weed.
Why I Moved
Things just aren’t as straight as they used to be.
• Poor maintenance
just keeps rising.
No
Pruning
Any
Time
On the day you sell your
home, every one wants
to walk out of the
closing having made a
profit. All value home
appreciation.
• Property
appreciation
occurs when
homeowners
value
– Curb appeal
– Keeping up
appearances
– Good maintenance
Which side is best
for a neighborhood?
• Rotting fence pickets on
the ground, dead
groundcovers, &
milkweed rising through
the mess depreciate both
home values plus
enjoyment of a
community.
• This is unacceptable in a
showcase neighborhood.
Too much blight has entered a
neighborhood once full of
charm. The photos speak for
themselves. They reveal why
I have moved on.
Why I Moved
Cleanliness of premises is
required by city Code.
(Section 205.)
Why I Moved
Why I Moved
City Code restricts fences
which are eyesores due to
having loose, rotting
materials.
(Section 5-212)

DECLARATION OF COVENANTS,
CONDITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
Garbage cans, Wood Piles, and Solid Waste
All rubbish … shall be
regularly removed from the
lot and not be allowed to
accumulate thereon.
Why I Moved
City Code: open and outdoor storage
The open or outdoor storage of
any … abandoned, discarded,
inoperative, or unusable furniture
… shall not be permitted for more
than twenty-four (24) hours.
(Sec. 5-215)

Why I Moved
Unsightly or Unkempt Conditions
It shall be the responsibility of each Owner
to prevent any unclean, unhealthy or
unsightly or unkempt conditions from
existing on or within his or her Lot including
any patio … or other outside areas
appurtenant thereto. Any items such as
outside patio furniture … shall be maintained
in a neat and attractive condition… .
Why I Moved
MAINTENANCE
Owner’s Responsibility
All maintenance and repair of a lot … shall be the
responsibility of the Owner of such Lot. Each
Owner shall also be responsible for maintaining his
Lot in a neat, clean and sanitary condition, and
such responsibility shall include the maintenance
and care of all lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, grass
and other landscaping contained within such Lot.
Why I Moved
DECLARATION OF COVENANTS,
CONDITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS
Nuisances
No rubbish or debris of any
kind shall be … permitted to
accumulate upon any
portion of the Property.
Cylinders awaiting use should be stored in an area away from heavy traffic.
Propane cylinders stored upright should be placed on a flat surface such as concrete or other
non-flammable material that will not collect water. Cylinders stored in places such as mud
risk exposing the cylinder to conditions that may cause rust and/or pitting that may render
the cylinder useless. It is recommended that a propane bottle be stored outside on a firm
surface and away from any source of ignition. -- (http://www.propane101.com)
Why I Moved
A slice of serenity
• Serene: (adjective) calm &
peaceful
• Our website describes us as
“a relaxed, serene
townhome community.”
• All residents should ensure
that neatness, cleanliness
and plants which are cared
for create the serenity of our
yards.
Some yard maintenance issues can be improved with a small
amount of time, energy & expense: pruning, plus removal of debris,
dead ferns in baskets, and leaves.
Why I Moved
• Yet consider . . .
– Exposure to weather
– Rising costs of labor & materials
• These problems will never be as inexpensive to
repair as they are today.
Other problems are more expensive to repair
