Why Missions?
- 1. WHY MISSIONS?“Jesus answered, "The most important [commandment] is, 'Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' - 2. Because we love God!The glory of Christ demands it.
- 3. Revelation 7:9-10 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, (10) and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!“
- 4. Psalms 96:3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!
- 5. Habakkuk 2:14 For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.
- 6. Isaiah 26:8 In the path of your judgments, O LORD, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our soul.
- 7. We were made to be captivated by glory and jealous for glory!If we love God we will be eager to spread his fame among the nations!That’s what loving God looks like!But - you can’t be jealous for the fame of Christ among the nations if you don’t care about the fame of Christ among your neighbors!
- 8. Because we love our neighbors (and the nations)!The lostness of man demands it.
- 9. Mankind is lost, estranged from God, headed for hell.
- 10. Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
- 11. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
- 12. John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.
- 13. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.If we love the nations we will bring the life-saving gospel to them!That’s what loving neighbors looks like!But - You can’t care about the lost in China, Mongolia or Kurdistan if you don’t care about the lost in Winter Garden, Ocoee, or Oakland.
- 14. It all boils down to the Great Commandment!Love God = spread his fame!
- 15. Love Neighbors = rescue them, near and far!
