Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) comprise 99% of businesses in General Santos City and many rely on the tuna industry. While the city is developing as a technology hub, few SMEs have computerized operations due to cost concerns. Free and open source software (FOSS) can help SMEs adopt technology more quickly and efficiently by reducing costs compared to proprietary software. FOSS allows SMEs to save on licensing fees and customize software to meet their needs. It also encourages innovation as the source code is publicly available and supports long-term competitiveness for SMEs.
