- 1. Why is it essential to teach PDHPE in Primary Schools? PDHPE is the only subject that incorporates the following: Active Lifestyle & Movement Skills Safe Living Skills Interpersonal Relationships, Growth & Development Personal Health Choices & Decision Making Skills
- 2. PDHPE promotes healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, as well as physical capacities. PDHPE assists students with identifying risk factors for preventable chronic diseases and teaches students to adopt healthier lifestyles, with the aim of reducing the prevalence of such conditions. - 3. Safe Living Skills Students are taught how to respond appropriately to potentially harmful situations, including road and water safety, in order to minimise the likeliness of risk of harm.
- 4. Interpersonal Relationships, Growth & Development PDHPE allows students to develop social and personal awareness, while building effective communication and conflict resolution skills. It also encourages students to value themselves as well as others.
- 5. Personal Health Choices & Decision Making Skills PDHPE allows students to develop fundamental decision making skills, while also providing them with the knowledge and awareness required to make informed decisions. This includes drug education and nutrition.
