Quality Control tuning in a multi-technology wireless network
Quality End-to-end Dinamically evaluated User experience based approach Monitoring and tuning: due sides of the same issue Voice and data: acceptable quality for data means excellent quality for voice
The network evolved Multi technology access (GSM/GPRS/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA, WiFi, WiMAX), packet as well as circuit switching nodes Connection network based on packet and circuit as well as Media Gateways specialized by service Quality Control, thus, must integrate different levels and may be specialized by user segment
Dynamic Evaluation Three steps: Quality Benchmarking for end-to-end voice e data traffic Diagnosis through network measurements and from user terminals as well as via drive tests Identification of parameters’ optimal values in the access network and in the servers for the identified issues Based on continuous terminal measurements, processed at a centralized nei monitoring center Structured as a process, rather than a single event
User experience based approach end to end quality Test Voice from varied terminals : allows to compare each terminal’s performance Enterprise level data: differentiated for vertical and business markets
Diagnosis through standard procedures Network measurements (e.g., Commprove, Tektronix, Agilent) Mobile station measurements (such as TEMS Investigation from Ericsson or Invex 3G from Andrews) Overall results integrated in a comprehensive report (radio limitations, access network limitations, core network limitations)
Optimization Radio (antennae, radio stations, broadcast channels parameters) Access (network, nodes interconnection, IP quality and e traffic shaping) Core network (capacity, subscribed-to services and traffic analysis by server) Tools’ examples: Anritsu, Tektronix
Tomorrow’s network is today… and makes no difference between mobile and fixed Clients Today Single-service networks LAN (Data) Mobile Fixed Telephony Broadband Wireless Services Servers Clients IP Backbone Network Access Access Future Multi-service networks Communcation Control Content Content Media Gateways Media Gateways Access
Summarizing…. Network quality: an iterative process in three steps Diagnosis Test Tuning
